The main directions and their features
The rustic style in each country has its own characteristics, while not only the local colorful interior design is popular in Russia. Many people prefer the charm of a European country house to the native Russian style.
Russian
The style of the grandmother's house can be recreated from memory, using a rich heritage in the form of towels, embroidered curtains, old jugs and milk jugs. Or assemble the interior bit by bit, relying on the features of the Russian rustic style:
- natural wood of Russian species in decoration and furniture;
- plant motifs in painting;
- blue, white, green, red shades;
- textiles with embroidery and lace;
- clay and porcelain painted dishes;
- Russian stove in the house.
The Russian style is clearly expressed in the drawings: Khokhloma, Gzhel, Slavic ornaments.
French
The rustic interior has a second name - Provence. To understand the history and features, you need to see a traditional village house. At first glance, it is noticeable that the color of French country is much lighter - warm natural wood is usually painted white or pastel. Other distinctive characteristics of the French country style Provence:
- artificial aging of decoration and furniture;
- forged interior items;
- combination of wood with stone, metal;
- plant motifs in decor and decoration;
- a combination of monochromatic surfaces with a small floral pattern;
- refined carved wooden furniture;
- main palette: white, lilac, light yellow, mint, pink, blue.
English
A traditional country house matches the prim English: strict, without bright accents, verified to the smallest detail. In the English style, there is no romance of France or the soulfulness of Russia, but this does not prevent you from creating cozy rustic interiors according to its canons.
Characteristics of this rustic style in the interior:
- dark range (brown, burgundy, mustard, dark green);
- an abundance of natural dark wood;
- massive wooden furniture;
- leather upholstered furniture;
- geometric print (mostly check) in textiles;
- hunting motives (paintings, animal skins, stuffed animals);
- antique decor; dishes made of copper, brass, ceramics.
Rustic principles
One way or another, all country styles have common features. Among them:
- Natural wood. Each style has its own breeds and processing methods, but it is the main material for decorating walls, floors, ceilings, furniture.
- Natural materials. Stone, fabric, leather, metal - all this goes well with wood and is widely used in a rustic style in the interior.
- Numerous decor. Often functional - for example, crockery.
- Focus on textiles. The fabric is important in all directions of the rustic style - Russian towels, French curtains in small flowers, English plaid rugs.
- Light aging.A deliberately new piece of decor or interior design will stand out from the overall picture. Atmospheric shabby details will be much more appropriate.
- Living fire. A stove or fireplace in a rustic living room will become the centerpiece of your home.
Color spectrum
We have already touched on the specifics of the color palette in the first section, we will take a closer look at it. You can choose one of two palettes: light or dark.
The light palette is usually cold, its basis is snow-white, gray, mint, lilac, blue. There are practically no shades of natural wood in such a village house, they are hidden by painting. But the floor and individual parts are allowed to be left warm.
The dark range, on the contrary, is warm: earthy, crimson, mustard. At the same time, they are successfully combined with dark blue, dark green, purple details. The basis of the rustic style in the interior is the color of natural wood - light, or dark, red.
Finishing nuances
The modern rustic style is not much different from the authentic one. During the repair, wooden walls in a log house are left as they are, or they are ennobled with lining, stone or imitation, brickwork, decorative plaster, wallpaper or fabric (linen, cotton). The latter are rarely used in plain colors, usually with small floral patterns.
The floor is classic - wooden. At the same time, it is not necessary to lay expensive parquet or laminate flooring, ordinary boards will help create the characteristic atmosphere of the coziness of a country house. A simple small stone or ceramic tile is allowed near the stove, fireplace or in the bathroom. Plain or with a simple print.
Wooden beams are often used on ceilings to emphasize the overall natural concept. The ceiling is whitewashed, sheathed with clapboard.
What kind of furniture will fit?
In search of suitable furniture, go around flea markets or search for the necessary interior items on the Internet. New cabinets and cabinets made of laminated chipboard will not work - look for cabinet furniture made of solid wood, or with wood veneer. The exception is Provence, for it the facades can be colored, but aged.
An antique dresser, sideboard or sideboard is not just a storage cabinet. Historical things become important details of the furnishings, the highlights of the space.
Upholstered furniture differs from modern models in size - it is large, a little rough in shape. At the same time, the upholstery can be either leather or fabric monochromatic, or in a small flower.
We select the right decor and lighting
Rustic style in the interior is not complete without textiles. There should be really a lot of it:
- Curtains. Draped blackout for bedroom windows, light cafe curtains in the kitchen, patterned curtains for the living room.
- Pillows. Solid, printed or patchwork in all seating areas - from the sofa in the living room to the bench in the hallway.
- Tablecloth. Table decoration speaks of the hospitality of the hosts, you can lay a neatly hanging tablecloth or a path in the middle.
- Bedspreads, blankets. Lay them out wherever you can sit or lie down comfortably - sofas, beds, sun loungers. Woolen, quilted, patchwork are suitable.
- Carpets. Wicker carpets and animal skins look amazing on the wooden floor.
- Small kitchen textiles. Towels, potholders, napkins and other little things shouldn't be underestimated.
Rustic décor is varied, mainly:
- paintings;
- potted plants and fresh bouquets;
- dishes (for example, beautiful plates or a samovar);
- dried flowers;
- pots and vases;
- baskets.
The hardest part is finding the right fixtures. In many interiors, wrought iron chandeliers or sconces are hung. A massive Victorian lamp will add a little chic. Wicker lampshades or paper balls will complement the natural theme.
Photos in the interior of the rooms
The first thing that a person sees when entering the house is the hallway. It should match the rustic style of the home.This is facilitated by wooden furniture, wicker storage baskets, open shelves.
The living room is the heart of the house. Therefore, the hearth should be placed here so that on a cold winter evening you can sit by the fireplace with a hot cup of tea and a blanket. The hall is also equipped with a large comfortable sofa and armchairs (ideally a rocking chair). The room is decorated with paintings, horns, skins, flowers.
A rustic-style nursery is most often light, with many elements from nature: a driftwood chandelier, a stump chair, slab shelves.
An unusual country-style bathroom features a natural finish: mainly a combination of wood and stone. Choose furniture to match the overall style of the interior - no laminated facades, veneer is better.
