The first step is to decide what exactly you will be making the structure from. A sofa made of MDF on the windowsill will be inexpensive and will last long enough. At the same time, MDF, unlike chipboard, does not emit harmful substances, it is absolutely safe - it is even suitable for children's rooms.

The most sustainable way - use wood. Pine, for example, can be found in any hardware store and is absolutely inexpensive. In addition, with the help of stain, paint or oil, it can be visually given any desired shade.The only caveat is that natural wood will have to be treated against rotting, parasite damage.

The easiest option is plastic... It is easy to cut, does not mold, does not require special care.

In addition to the materials themselves, you will also need:

• pencil, ruler;
• roulette;
• jigsaw or hand saw with a suitable blade;
• building level;
• polyurethane foam;
• sealant;
• brackets or corners (depending on the width of the future seat).

Step-by-step instruction

1. Before starting the installation, it is imperative to carry out calculations: if the old window sill is dismantled during repair, then add 4-5 cm to the width between the slopes, and to the depth - 2 cm. These parts will be hidden under the frame, sidewalls of the opening. If the installed plate is held firmly, the size must be selected clearly according to the dimensions of the niche - it is better to entrust the right to measure to a person with an excellent eye.

Important! The new sill is installed using foam - this will help avoid sealing problems in the future.

2. To create a hanging sofa, the second step will be to install brackets - they allow you to expand the base for a more comfortable seat. The "cover" is placed on top, foamed at the places where it is adjacent to the window, and treated with a sealant. All that remains is to put the pillows on: done!

3. If you plan to make comfortable shelves or drawers below, you will have to assemble a frame made of wood. The base can be laid directly on top of it, or reinforced with metal brackets for stability.

4. When the frame is assembled, you should equip it with doors (if you plan to open them for storage), make an outer cladding (with plasterboard or other materials), decorate. Put a plate on top, fix it.

Important! Check the incline level - it shouldn't be! Otherwise, pillows, rugs, and other objects will simply roll off the surface.

Unusual ideas in the interior

Not all options for window sill sofas are the same: it all depends on the initial data and imagination. For example, in Khrushchev or other houses with high windows, it is logical to make a couple of steps to the seat: they can also be used as boxes for extra pillows, blankets, books.

If the opening is wide enough (more than 1.5 meters), then you can equip a two-tier system: just below the seat, and at the window level - an extension for the window sill. It is convenient to arrange flowers or decorative accessories on such a table. In a nursery, a high tabletop can be used as the base of a work table by placing a chair underneath.

It is not necessary to cover the battery completely, it is enough to put the base of the seat on top, adding a couple of supports. And leave an empty space below: an open battery will give off heat without problems, heat the room.
