What is strictly prohibited?
According to the instructions for use, the melamine sponge is not suitable for all surfaces. To understand why it is not suitable for cleaning any coating, you need to understand what it consists of, how the melamine sponge works.
When water gets inside the material, pores open, tendrils invisible to the eye appear on the outside - thanks to this effect, the sponge becomes abrasive, helps to cleanse dirt without the use of detergents.
Even a mild abrasive can scratch some materials, and be dangerous for others. That in no case can be cleaned with a hard sponge:
- Stainless steel... A shiny pot, kettle, or spill will lose its appearance after cleaning with a melamine sponge. Small scratches form on the surface, the thing will be damaged forever.
- A rock... A stone countertop is expensive, durable, very durable, not only due to its density, but also a protective film on the surface. It is for this film that the sponge is dangerous - it simply peels off the protective layer, exposing the porous texture. Traces, scratches, defects will easily remain on the countertop or other pieces of furniture.
- Non-stick coating... Frying pans, teflon saucepan are afraid of sharp knives, metal objects, dangerous melamine sponges. Instead of rubbing stubborn dirt, buy mild household chemicals that won't break down the delicate protective layer.
- Painted metal... A sponge on the surface of the paint (for example, on the body of a car) will leave indelible scratches, make the parts defenseless against corrosion and rust. The same applies to the insides of the oven, electric grills, and other appliances.
- Screens... Glasses on phones, TVs, and other gadgets will quickly fail and become covered with a net of thin stripes - therefore, the display cannot be cleaned with a melamine sponge. For the same reason, you should not use it on window panes, photo frames, mirrors.
- Leather... Never wash with a melamine sponge like a washcloth - it corrodes the skin and can cause serious allergic reactions.
- Food... Melamine breaks down during use, so small particles of a substance hazardous to health will remain on fruits, vegetables, eggs.
- Dinnerware... Plates, mugs, spoons, forks, and other items that come into contact with food should be washed with regular foam rubber with a suitable detergent. Melamine can leave harmful particles on the surface.
