Upholstery for sofa and armchairs
If you have no idea how to use burlap in the interior, you probably imagine a rough prickly fabric. But it should be noted that there are 3 types of burlap:
- Jute. This material is made from the toughest fibers, but at the same time it is the most durable.
- Linseed. The softest version, made from 100% flax.
- Mixed. Mix of flax and jute 50-50. Strong, but soft.
Blended burlap is used for furniture - it serves for a long time and it is pleasant to sit on it. Some firms offer custom-made burlap sofas, but you can pull the old furniture yourself.
Due to the neutral appearance of the material, you can use any decoration:
- the carriage coupler looks amazing in the Provence style living room;
- prints a la print from coffee bags are suitable for a loft interior;
- stitching, large buttons will be appropriate for country design.
It is not necessary to select rough suitable furniture for the decor, try to implement a certain oxymoron - to combine the incongruous. Take a baroque armchair or carved-legged stool and swap out the rich velvet for burlap.
To emphasize the original upholstery, surround the upholstered furniture with wood, glass or metal - sisal works best with them.
Tablecloth on the table
What kind of burlap to use depends on the style, functionality of the table and your preferences. For the kitchen table, choose a thin linen fabric; it is permissible to decorate a coffee or bedside table with a tougher material.
An ordinary tablecloth looks too simple, so decorations will not interfere with it. Sew on ruffles, tassels, ruffles, flowers, or ties. Decorate with white designs or colorful embroidery. The combination with the most delicate lace looks especially harmonious.
Chair Covers
Most often, chairs are "dressed up" on the occasion of an important event; sackcloths are used to decorate celebrations in a rustic style, boho, rustic or eco.
Covers can be one-piece, that is, they use both the back and the seat - they need a canvas of soft or medium hardness. And partial, that is, decorating only the back - any fabric is suitable here, including jute fabric.
For a home or summer cottage in a suitable style, the upholstery of chairs can generally be changed to burlap. Such furniture is ideal for a wooden interior.
Curtains
Burlap curtains in the interior are extremely versatile:
- straight simple long curtains will decorate a Scandinavian or modern interior;
- models with ruffles and tassels are used on windows in a classic decor;
- roll or roman fit industrial style;
- multi-layered curtains emphasize the Provence and country style.
Combining burlap with other fabric or decorative elements can lead to amazing results. Play on the contrast of colors with bright chintz or combine textures with flying organza.Ribbons, braid, lace, embroidery, prints are suitable as accents. It is not necessary to combine the canvas; you can decorate the burlap curtains with pins or drawstrings.
Decorative pillows
Burlap pillowcase - ideas for an interior in any design. However, sleeping on such a prickly material is inconvenient, so it is used exclusively for decoration.
If you want a pillow arrangement for your sofa or bed, make it yourself. Sew pillowcases and decorate them as you like. Draw beautiful birds or animals, embroider colorful birds, translate a family photo, attach unusual buttons or ribbons.
Pillows should be washed more often than other decor, but this should be done exclusively by hand and only in cold water - the fabric has a high percentage of shrinkage.
Tiebacks for curtains
Such a small detail as a curtain holder, with the right choice, will become a highlight of the interior. Tie a sacking ribbon in a regular bow and you will already get a decor that is interesting in shape. But you can also work hard: make beautiful flowers, plant them on a ribbon and attach them to the curtains. The decoration from seashells looks unusual.
It is better to use burlap hooks on contrasting light fabrics - linen, organza, cotton, mesh. If you have curtains made of this fabric, make a grab from it or use a jute rope.
Burlap wallpaper
Burlap wall decor in the interior is an unpopular solution, but very original. In addition, such a finishing material will cost you about the same as middle-class wallpaper, while it will last longer. The only drawback is the presence of joints, most often they are hidden behind wooden planks, but they can also be replaced with jute rope.
It is more difficult to glue fabric than paper or non-woven fabric, but the result is worth it. If the monochromatic wall design seems boring to you, you can always paint over the patterns with regular acrylic paint.
Flower pots
Burlap - although coarse and dense, but fabric - so planting plants immediately in a bag is not worth it. But for framing pots, it fits perfectly!
You can go the simplest way and put the pot in a bag - this way you can hide an ugly or unsuitable vessel from prying eyes. Plus the neutral beige color of the material forms a natural unity with the green leaves of the plants.
The rest of the options require imagination and additional time. With the help of burlap, you can decorate any vessels - from an ordinary plastic bottle or a tin can, for example, you get a stylish planter for small flowers. If the result seems boring, decorate the pot with beads, lace, pebbles, buttons.
Kitchen accessories
Burlap in the interior of the kitchen is used not only as a tablecloth, they sew from it:
- napkins;
- potholders;
- cutlery covers;
- hot coasters;
- aprons;
- practical bags;
- decorations for jars and containers.
Serving napkins can be signed for each family member or beautiful designs can be drawn.
The bags are suitable for storing vegetables, fruits, cereals, coffee and sweets. Such a kitchen decor is ideal for a summer cottage or a country house, but in an ordinary apartment you can easily create the illusion of country life with it.
Headboard
We have already mentioned that burlap is often chosen for upholstering furniture due to its practicality and texture. The bed is no exception.
The classic version of the curly headboard with a carriage tie, made in jute fabric, looks simple and effective at the same time.
If you need to have certain skills for a carriage coupler, then anyone can make a stationary headboard from soft squares. Use thin plywood, padding polyester and burlap. Lay the layers on top of each other, secure with a furniture stapler and install on the wall.
Shade
Make a pendant, table or wall lamp the center of your interior! Replace your standard lampshade fabric with a textured burlap weave.A well-stretched material perfectly transmits light, and assembled on a drawstring creates a chamber-like home atmosphere.
The diffused light of warm natural tones will make the room more comfortable and the lamp will look like a designer accessory.
Interior decor and accessories
Perhaps, burlap in the interior is one of the most versatile and favorite materials for needlework among creative people. Create from it:
- vases;
- storage baskets;
- paintings; photo frames;
- Stuffed Toys;
- New Year's toys;
- candlesticks;
- interior dolls and much more.
In addition to the durability, simplicity and environmental friendliness we have listed, burlap is breathable, easy to clean, and can be combined with many materials. The disadvantages include strong shrinkage during washing and low moisture resistance - keep this in mind before starting to create.
