Types of door trims

The general appearance of the slats is usually rectangular, but the shape is different depending on the type of cut:

• Flat (straight). The surface is flat, at the end it looks like a rectangle. Installed at right angles to each other (pictured below).
• Figured. They differ in the presence of a certain relief (in the form of rollers) on the surface. The vertical pattern gives the doorway an original look.
• Radius (semicircular). The surface is convex. Depending on the design solution, it can be symmetrical in the shape of a crescent or slightly shifted to one side of the bar, resembling a falling drop.

Variants of using platbands

When choosing, you should take into account the location of the doors in the room:

• For interroom you can use any materials.
• At the front door inside the apartment - metal or plastic, characterized by increased resistance to mechanical stress.

Platband material

Due to the variety of materials, you can arrange an opening in any room, it is only important to take into account the features of each of them:

• Plastic. PVC is used for manufacturing. They are used most often on doors made of the same material. PVC is not afraid of moisture, prevents mold and is often equipped with cable ducts. Large selection of colors.
• Wooden. They are made of spliced ​​solid wood (common furniture materials - smooth eco-veneer, veneer), do not deform over time. Easily match in tone and texture with wooden doors, varied in patterns and textures, environmentally friendly. From natural wood - birch, oak, baguette frames are made. The only negative is that they are sensitive to moisture and are afraid of temperature changes.
• MDF. The most common companion for MDF doors is lightweight and easy to install. Accurately repeat the shade and texture of the canvas.
• Gypsum. They are used as an addition to the existing plaster decor in the room - stucco moldings for the ceiling or walls. Painted plaster requires careful use, as it crumbles easily upon impact.
• Metal. They are used both for the design of entrance doors and interior doors - glass in the interior in high-tech style.

Regardless of the material, the platbands are installed strictly perpendicular to the floor.

Colors of platbands

Traditionally, the color is matched to the color of the door and the overall color scheme. But you can always stop at the basic colors:

• White.
• Wenge.
• Black.
• Brown.
• The gray ones.

As a modern solution - the contrasting color of the door and the gray, dark or light shade of the planks - this combination looks original and stylish (example in the photo).

Design and forms of decorative platbands

It is quite simple to make an accent in the interior if you choose the right shape:

Narrow

They are chosen when the door is very narrow and elongated, when the corner of the room and adjacent walls are close (as in the photo), in case there is a niche above the door. Often, they are purchased in order to save money for the design of utility rooms.

Carved

Decorated with carved patterns on natural wood.

Wide

They create a special tone in the interior and, unlike other types, are not necessarily combined with the color of the door, the combination with skirting boards is much more important. Ideal for paneled doors.

Semicircular

They are framed by semicircular openings, arches. The sizes are individual, most often they are attached using telescopic fasteners.

With patterns

A beautiful decorative effect obtained by using patina even on simple materials. This technique emphasizes and enhances the classic interior. Used in styles such as Provence, Baroque, Venetian.

Antique

Solid wood, with a texture that imitates aged wood. Suitable for country style, loft, provence.

Small capitals

Additional polyurethane overlays on the upper part of the doorway are used to decorate door structures in a classic style (due to the overlay, the casing becomes double). They perform an exclusively aesthetic function.

Options for the design of platbands in the interior of rooms

Depends on the room in which the doors are installed. The reason for this is the different interior design, as well as the peculiarity of the climate inside the room.

• Hallway. The entrance door to the apartment is most often located here. Platbands, door slope to the floor and threshold are installed from metal, natural wood or dense plastic.
• Bathroom.The bathroom is a place of high humidity. Taking this feature into account, you need to choose ceramic or plastic materials.
• Restroom. As a rule, a bathroom is a small space in which narrow platbands made of ordinary plastic, wood or ceramics can act as a corner plinth.
• Kitchen. Different materials can be used.

There are no restrictions on the choice of material for decorating the doorway to the kitchen, as such. It all depends on the design project and the taste of the owner.

Photos in various interior styles

In the design of modern interiors, different style techniques easily coexist. So in the design of an apartment in the style of minimalism, it is not at all necessary to exactly match the colors of the door leaf and platbands (photo on the right). And in Provence or country style, classic beige platbands will perfectly complement the interior with a door in light colors.
