Following fashion trends
When deciding on the design of a bathroom, kitchen or corridor with tiles, you should not chase the latest trends. There are some of the most popular and memorable tile types at the moment: hog, patchwork and hexagons. These products are found too often, so they no longer seem original.
You should choose a tile to your taste, but listen to the opinion of professionals. The most versatile textures today: stone, wood and concrete. Also, monochromatic matte products will never go out of fashion. Bright colored coatings look impressive, but over time they become annoying.
Buying substandard tiles
To create a harmonious interior, the visual component of products is important: the drawing should be clear, without large pixels, and the surface should be smooth or with a uniform texture without defects.
High-quality products should not look like tiles - modern manufacturers have learned to imitate natural materials so reliably that porcelain stoneware is difficult to distinguish from stone or wood. Choose products with a high variability of the pattern: the often repetitive texture looks unnatural. It is also necessary to check the uniformity of the order by tone and caliber.
Size-only orientation
It is impossible to guess with the tile format based only on the dimensions of the room. The choice of products is always individual. Sometimes large elements are appropriate for small bathroom or in the kitchen, and sometimes it is better to use a small format.
The optimal purchase sequence is choosing the collection you like, drawing up a layout plan or creating a visualization, then purchasing products. It is worth remembering: the smaller the elements, the more seams there will be on the surface, and therefore the longer the installation. You should also take into account the type of products for various surfaces: all the necessary information is written in detail on the packages.
Incorrect combination
If the design skill is low, we do not recommend experimenting with unexpected combinations.
Facing a room with the same tiles is a winning solution for a laconic interior, since monochromatic products provide more room for decor. But if this option seems boring, you can lay tiles in different colors and sizes, following some recommendations:
- Combining different shades, use ready-made color combinations from one thematic collection.
- Do not use products with a glossy sheen if the choice fell on natural textures (shiny wood, marble and concrete look unconvincing).
- Do not mix matte and glossy elements on the same plane.
Incorrect calculation
If the number of tiles corresponds to the surface area, you will not have to overpay for excess material or buy it in addition in case of a shortage.
To find out the number of elements for facing a room, you need to calculate its area and divide by the size of the tile, or use an online calculator. You should also add a margin - about 10% of the total, since the material is easily damaged during transportation or laying. If fit to the pattern is required, then the margin should be 20%.
Ceramic tiles are one of the most durable and environmentally friendly materials. If the choice is made correctly, then the material will be an excellent addition to the interior and will last a long time.
