Forgotten products
Overripe fruits left in the open air or rotten potatoes in the pantry attract small fruit flies called fruit flies. They multiply quickly, and getting rid of them is not easy, especially in a private home.
The first thing to do is to deprive the fly source of food by checking the kitchen and cupboards for tainted food. If there are a lot of flies, it is worth hanging up sticky tape, and also setting up traps - jars or bottles with bait, a narrow neck or a paper funnel.
Home plants
We are talking about flowers that have undergone improper care. From excessive watering in the soil of plants, springtails (purrs) can appear: at first they are harmless and feed on rotten debris and microorganisms, but young shoots and roots begin to eat in large quantities. In order not to attract insects, you should water the flowers sparingly, wipe the pots, do not get carried away with fertilizers.
Weevils, aphids, mealybugs, whiteflies and other pests can also appear on domestic plants. As a preventive measure, you should carefully choose new specimens, rinse them in the shower or wipe them with a rag, do not place the pots too closely, and in case of infection, treat them with special means.
Books and stacks of papers
A large number of books, magazines and notebooks attract bedbugs, if they appear in the apartment, as well as hay-eaters - book lice. The latter feeds not only on paper and paste on the spine of a book, but also on herbariums and fur, and also eats up flour and other organic products. The optimal conditions for the existence of hay-eaters are high air temperature and humidity. To prevent the hay-eaters from getting into the apartment, you should regularly wash the floor and wipe the dust off the bookshelves. In an advanced case, you must contact the exterminators.
Crumbs, trash and dirt
The mess in the house not only deprives the room of beauty, but also is an ideal condition for the life and reproduction of all kinds of insects. If you do not wash the dishes for a long time, do not wipe the kitchen cabinets and the floor, and also keep the places where waste accumulates in the dirt, cockroaches will start in the apartment. Cluttered areas where little sunlight penetrates, dampness and food nearby are ideal conditions for them. The main method of struggle is a good sanitary condition of the premises.
High humidity
In bathrooms, where a lot of moisture accumulates, silverfish often appear - nimble insects with a shiny back. They do not pose a danger to humans, but they eat flour and sugar, as well as starch - for example, wallpaper glued to paste. To get rid of silverfish, surfaces inhabited by insects must be treated with chlorine, and also make sure that the heating and ventilation system is working properly.
Soft toys, fleecy carpets
Invisible house parasites - dust mites - create a strong allergenic background. Tick-borne allergens are found in insect excrement, and they are so small that they easily rise into the air and, when inhaled, remain on the mucous membranes of the human respiratory tract.
The ideal "home" for a house mite is things with lint that actively collect dust. In case of allergies, it is necessary to carry out wet cleaning more often, replace mattresses and pillows with synthetic ones, and also get rid of carpets and soft toys, since even after dry cleaning these items will accumulate dust.
Fur
Many are familiar with moths: one of its types - wardrobe - loves to feast on clothes made from natural fabrics, especially fur coats. For prophylaxis, sachets with deterrent aromas, such as lavender oil, should be hung in the closet. And if the moths are already wound up, dry cleaning, steam treatment and general cleaning will help. Freezing clothes on the balcony will save some of the pests, and vacuum packaging will be useful for additional protection.
Furniture from hands
Wooden furniture, bought at flea markets or brought from the street, sometimes hides a danger. Bed bugs can live in mattresses, sofas, tables and cabinets made of wood. Pests hide in narrow crevices, folds and seams - they are difficult to spot, but even more difficult to remove.
Bed bugs hunt humans at night, feeding on blood and leaving bite paths on the skin. The most reliable option in the fight against these insects is professional pest control. Proven specialists can do it the first time, saving the house not only from adult pests, but also eggs. Purchased funds do not guarantee this.
Wall cracks, ventilation
Insects are always looking for a way to get into the house, so cracks in walls and doors, vents and windows are an easy way for pests to enter an apartment. The risk is higher if you live in an old house or a Soviet high-rise building, where the integrity of the floors is broken. Cockroaches and bedbugs can easily run away from neighbors. To protect against intruders, the doors, walls and frames should be free of cracks, and it is recommended to install additional screens on the ventilation openings.
Sweets
Honey and jam, left in the public domain, attract not only children and those with a sweet tooth, but also insects. Flies, ants, beetles, wasps and bees enjoy sugary foods as well as wine and lemonade. Store sweets in a sealed container and wipe up spilled drinks. In the summer there is a chance to "eat" a bee along with a piece of something sweet, so food left in the air should be carefully examined before eating.
By following these recommendations, you will significantly reduce the risk of occurrence and reproduction of insects in the house.
