Tips for decorating a nursery
With the beginning of study, not only the daily routine changes in the child's life, but also his room:
- A comfortable bed with an orthopedic mattress is still required for sleeping and resting.
- A properly equipped space for daily study sessions is added.
- A little more space is allocated for storing books and clothes.
- As before, there is enough space for games and sports.
Zoning options
Comfortable is the nursery, where each functional area is separated from the other. Zoning and ordering the room helps the student to better focus on certain tasks, and from a psychological point of view, they provide a sense of security.
Zoning can be visual (with separation by color or texture, when the walls and ceiling of each section are decorated in different ways) and functional (using furniture and additional structures). These methods can be successfully combined with each other, especially if the area of the student's room allows experimentation.
A more economical option is furniture zoning. It is useful to divide the nursery with a shelving unit that will store toys and books. Despite the fact that shelving and cabinets placed across the room are excellent delimiters, they can deprive the student's room of natural light. To zone a room, it is recommended to choose low or open products.
It is good if the room has a niche, partition or column - an "inconvenient" layout can always be turned into an advantage by equipping a bedroom or a workplace in a secluded corner.
How to furnish correctly?
School age is the transition to adulthood, so furniture and furnishings that were appropriate in a baby's room are no longer suitable for a first grader.
Workspace
The first and most important thing for study is a desk and a chair. They are usually placed near a window that provides ample natural light.
Experts advise placing the work area so that the student sits perpendicular to the front door: from a psychological point of view, this position is considered the most comfortable.
As with all furniture, the training kit should be as comfortable as possible. Ideally, the table legs can be adjusted, and the back and chair height can be adjusted to the child. Sitting at the table, the child should freely keep his elbows on its surface and have his feet straight on the floor. The width and length of the tabletop should be sufficient to accommodate a computer and leave room for textbooks, notebooks and other school supplies.
A place to relax and play
The older the child, the more adult affairs and responsibility he takes on. The time spent on games, and the space for them, is becoming less and less, but this does not mean that the student does not need a play area. Primary school children still love to play with dolls and cars, so there should be enough room in the room for houses and trails.
In adolescence, schoolchildren like to invite friends, so additional seating should be provided for guests: soft chairs, bean bags or a sofa.
Sports section
Parents know how important it is to pay attention not only to school, but also to the physical development of the child. If the small area of the room does not allow equipping a whole sports complex, it is enough to install a small wall and hang darts on the wall.
Sleeping place
For the bed, the corner is usually chosen where the child feels most comfortable: in a country house it is an attic with a sloping roof, in an apartment there is a niche. Most younger students prefer to sleep near the wall. For teenagers, the location of the bed no longer plays such an important role, but in any case, when choosing a place to sleep, you need to ask your child's opinion.
Someone likes to sleep on the upper tier, while someone is afraid of heights, so a loft bed should be bought taking into account the characteristics of the child. The same goes for the design of the structure: not everyone will be happy with a bed in the form of a car or a carriage. But simple laconic furniture will last longer, as it will not go out of fashion and will suit any interior.
Storage systems
It is easier to teach a schoolchild to order if there is a place for each thing. It is recommended to arrange in the room:
- Sturdy wardrobe with laundry compartments and rails for clothes and uniforms.
- Hanging or built-in bookshelves.
- Closed systems for personal belongings, toys and bed linen.
- Convenient shelves for everyday little things.
Organization of lighting
If a central chandelier is planned for a schoolchild's room, then additional light sources are added to it: wall sconces or a lamp on the bedside table, a table lamp with adjustable parameters of height and angle of inclination. A night light with a dim light will help tune in to sleep.
The correct organization of lighting should ensure uniformity of light. Excessive brightness or dimness is harmful to the student's eyes, especially in the work area.
Finishes and materials
The design of a student's room largely depends on his interests, but designers do not advise buying flashy cartoon photo wallpapers: bright colors and images can quickly get bored. As a wall covering, you should choose paper, non-woven or cork wallpaper, as well as paint. One of the walls can be accentuated by covering it with a special slate composition to write on it with chalk, like on a blackboard, or by hanging a map of the world.
The ceiling can be made laconic by simply whitening it, or decorated with stars using phosphoric paint.
An eco-friendly floor covering that does not slip, does not accumulate bacteria and is easy to maintain is suitable for the floor: laminate, cork or parquet.
All materials must be safe and have a quality certificate.
Examples for a boy
The arrangement of the nursery depends not only on the age of the student, but also on his gender. To decorate a room for a student, it is important to choose both comfortable furniture and a style that will appeal to the young owner of the room.
The style directions most suitable for boys are bright and functional contemporary, brutal loft, marine style or high-tech hi-tech.
The most suitable colors are blue, green, gray and white with contrasting details. But you can't rely only on your parental taste: in the end, everything depends on the preferences of the child.
Ideas for girls
The room for the schoolgirl is distinguished by smoother lines and color transitions. Classic, Scandinavian and eco-style will do, as well as contemporary.
It is best to choose muted shades as the main palette: cream, pink, mint, and place accents using bright decor items.
