Moisture
Regardless of the material used in the manufacture of the countertop, do not leave spilled water on its surface. Moisture must be removed immediately with a dry cloth. Plastic slabs are especially susceptible to destruction - on the edges processed with PVC edging, there is a small gap, into which water can penetrate. Over time, the chipboard base can deform and swell.
Do not place dishes on the countertop without wiping them off after washing. We also recommend keeping an eye on the joints between the sink and the product: when installing the sink, they must be sealed with silicone sealant.
Temperature drops
It is necessary to design kitchen furniture so that the top edge of the countertop is below the level of the gas stove, otherwise the product may burn due to the working burners. Also, do not keep appliances that get very hot on the work surface: steamers, grills, toasters.
Both heat and cold are harmful to the product. Optimum temperature conditions for surface operation: from +10 to + 25C.
Hot dishes
Pots and pans that have just been removed from the stove must not be placed on the countertop. The surface may swell or discolor. Only a slab of quartz agglomerate can withstand a high temperature - for all other products, it is necessary to use hot coasters.
Stains
Some liquids (pomegranate juice, coffee, wine, beets) can leave impurities that can be difficult to remove later. It is better to minimize their contact with the countertop and wipe off any marks left immediately. The integrity of the product can be compromised by foods containing acids: lemonade, vinegar, tomato and lemon juice. Before removing these stains, cover them with baking soda and wipe them off without pressing. Grease, oil and wax should be removed with organic solvents.
Abrasives
Wipe the countertop, like other furniture surfaces, only with gentle compounds. Any abrasive substances (powders, as well as hard brushes and sponges) leave microscopic scratches. Over time, dirt becomes clogged in them and the appearance of the product deteriorates. It is recommended to replace chemical cleaning agents with ordinary soap solution.
Mechanical impact
Scratches appear not only from aggressive cleaning agents, but also from sharp objects. You cannot cut food on the countertop: the integrity of the coating will be broken and the scratch will soon darken, so cutting boards should be used. Hitting and dropping heavy objects is also undesirable.
It is also not recommended to move heavy appliances (microwave oven, multicooker) without felt pads on the legs. If necessary, it is better to gently lift the device and reposition it.
Sun rays
Varnishes and coatings are not designed for prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, they gradually fade. Over time, the color of the countertop near the window will differ significantly from the rest of the array, and such changes are typical even for high-quality expensive kitchens. Protect windows with curtains or blinds to prevent burnout.
Compliance with these simple rules will save the work surface from negative changes and the countertop will not have to be changed or repaired.
