What to consider when choosing?
Bedroom furniture must meet the following characteristics:
- Strength. The back wall, drawer bottoms, shelves must support the weight of everything you need.
- Environmental friendliness. Choose safe materials for your bedroom dresser that do not emit harmful substances.
- Multifunctionality. In order not to clutter up the bedroom, choose furniture that can cover several tasks at once: for example, with a mirror or a makeup table.
- Style. From a huge number of options for bedroom dressers, choose the one that will be in harmony with the "friends" in the overall ensemble.
- Compliance with the sizes. The smaller the bedroom, the more compact the wardrobes should be.
- The quality of the fittings. Doors and drawers must hold tight and open easily, do not slam. For drawers, choose full-roll-out guides, with them it will be convenient for you to get things from any depth.
What types are there?
Chests of drawers in the bedroom differ in design, materials, and content. Let's analyze the main functional types of products:
- Classic with drawers. The traditional model that everyone imagines with this word. The number of boxes depends on the design: from 2 in one row to 6-15 in several rows. Sizes are also different: from small and narrow for underwear, to wide and deep for bedding.
- With superstructure. This variation is somewhat reminiscent of a sideboard: open shelves, sideboards with glass or blank facades are placed on top.
- Coupe. Unlike the standard model, in addition to drawers, the compartment also has shelves behind closed doors.
- The Bureau. Many small drawers look very stylish and will become a bright accent in the interior.
- Secretaire. Thanks to the top hinged lid, when closed, the chest of drawers functions as a storage, and when open, it serves as a convenient work table.
Shapes and sizes
In order not to be mistaken with the size when buying, consider the following parameters:
- Width. Be sure to measure it if you plan to fit it into a niche or space between a wall and other furniture.
- Depth. It is more important here not closed, but open - there should be enough space in front to pull out a drawer or open a door. There is a direct relationship with ease of use.
- Height. Should be measured if the chest of drawers replaces the bedside table. It is best if the table top is flush with the mattress.
The size should not only be in harmony with the room, but also match the storage needs. Decide what you will store inside. Small, narrow drawers are suitable for small items, deep spacious drawers for bedding.
Unusual bedroom dressers in size will help change the geometry of the space. Low long ones look elegant and add horizontal lines. Suitable for narrow rooms. High ones look harmonious in bedrooms with high ceilings. Narrow (30 cm) cope with the main function, saving free space in small rooms.
In appearance, there are 3 types:
- Rectangular. The traditional model of the correct form of any length and width.
- Corner chest of drawers. Allows efficient use of space, often used in non-standard layouts.
- Radial. There are both simple - round, semicircular, and complex curvilinear. Such original designs require an appropriate interior, for example, a classic one.
Dresser filling options
In addition to the usual roll-out drawers, today you can find models equipped with closed or open shelves and other additions:
- Ironing board. Designer's recommendation for small bedrooms is the use of multifunctional furniture. One option is a fold-out ironing board instead of a table top.
- Mirror. The reflective surface will help you decorate the dresser under the dressing table. In addition, it visually expands the room. The mirror can be either stationary, located outside, or built into the lid, which can be closed and opened.
- Baby changing table. An ideal model if the family has a small child or is expected to have one. The table top is folding and does not take up much space, while the baby will be convenient to change clothes.
- TV Stand. Of course, the equipment can be put on a regular tabletop, but under a small shelf it is convenient to place a set-top box, a router and other related equipment on it.
- Toilet table. It can look like a secretaire - with a folding table top, then there are shelves for cosmetics and a mirror inside it. Or maybe as a symbiosis of a table and a cabinet - that is, a chest of drawers in this case acts as an underframe.
To use a piece of furniture conveniently, it must have:
- Pens. Choose ergonomic models without sharp corners. On long boxes, two are installed at the edges, on short ones - one wide in the center. The original idea is to arrange different views on different facades.
- Legs. You can do without them, but the presence of supports allows you to move the chest of drawers close to the wall and makes bulky models easier.
Where is it better to place?
If you look at a photo of the interiors of a bedroom with a chest of drawers, the conclusion suggests itself that they are installing it in any free space. And indeed it is. Let's consider the most popular ideas:
- On the side of the bed. That is, as a bedside table, and the composition can be both symmetrical (two at the edges) and asymmetric (on one side a chest of drawers, on the other a table or a curbstone).
- Between the beds. This method is convenient for children's or guest bedrooms with two beds. The wardrobe performs several functions at once: storing things and replacing both bedside tables.
- At the foot. Often they put an ottoman at the feet, why not replace it with a chest of drawers? This arrangement of furniture is unusual, but convenient: you can remove the coverlet on the chest of drawers before going to bed, and inside - clothes.
- Opposite the bed. The classic version of the arrangement, in this case, it is possible to install a TV on the tabletop or above it.
- By the side wall. If the bed stands across in a narrow long room, then one of the short walls remains under the cabinets - place a chest of drawers in the same place.
- Under window. Another unconventional way is to preserve usable space. Slide it to the side and place a worktop on top - your desktop is ready!
- In a niche. Use the geometric features of the bedroom wisely - measure the dimensions of the recess and purchase a dresser to order.
- On the balcony. Is your bedroom adjacent to a heated balcony? Organize a storage area there.
Photos in the interior
Due to its small size (as opposed to a wardrobe or bed), a chest of drawers in the bedroom is used as an element of decor. Paint it in an unusual shade, decorate with stickers or drawings, add original pens. Or, use a countertop to place the decorations on top. Decorative table lamps, frames with paintings and photographs, plants, vases, and interesting souvenirs are used as accessories.
The color and design of the chest of drawers is matched to the interior:
- Glossy white, gray, black chests of drawers in a modern style with metallic elements for hi-tech or minimalism.
- Light models with dark leather or metal handles will suit the Scandinavian style.
- Carved wooden facades made of natural rocks and semicircular convex shapes will complement the classics.
- The combination of black metal and wood texture is ideal for a loft.
