Placement rules
Ideally, before buying furniture, make a competent plan on paper or in a special program on a computer. Here are a few points that will show you how to properly arrange the furniture in the bedroom.
- Leave at least 50 cm between furniture and walls for comfortable movement around the bedroom.
- Lay in front of drawers 90-110 cm.
- Match your bedside tables to the same height as your mattress bed. Move them to a distance of no more than 40 cm from the sleeping place.
- Reduce the number of sharp corners as much as possible so as not to injure yourself at night.
- Use a minimum of furniture to ensure free air circulation.
- Position the mirror so as not to reflect in it while you sleep.
Furniture arrangement options
The location of furniture in the bedroom depends on the size of the room, items. And the set of furniture is determined by the envisaged functionality of the bedroom. If you only plan to relax here, a bed, a pair of pedestals is enough. To store things, add a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, for work, make-up - a table, for reading - an armchair, a rack.
Bed
Arrangement of furniture in a large and small bedroom begins with a berth. Most often this role is assigned to beds, but sometimes it is advisable to replace it with a folding sofa.
Basic rules for the correct location of the bed:
- Place the bed headboard against the wall, make a high headboard. This is due not only to the rational use of space, but psychological calmness.
- Leave at least 0.7m around the edges of the bed in the bedroom for easy access. In small apartments it is possible to push it against the wall with one side. But this option is not suitable for older people, because it will be difficult for them to get up and lie down.
- Choose a place to sleep so that you can see everyone entering the bedroom.
- Install the bed diagonally if the layout of the room is initially incorrect, or if you want to make it so.
- Slide the girl / boy's single bed sideways against the wall, so it will be more comfortable to sleep, further layout will not cause problems.
- Do not place the bed with the headboard towards the window, opposite the door. This will affect sleep comfort. In the first case, you will be disturbed by noise, cold air, in the second - by light from neighboring rooms.
Cupboard
If you have a separate dressing room, then organizing a storage area in the bedroom is not at all necessary. However, more often than not, a wardrobe is an integral part of the interior.
There are 3 options for storing things in the bedroom:
- Closet. Most often, it is the built-in structure with shelves, hangers, drawers that is used.
- Pencil case. It can be a freestanding column or a set, in a niche of which a bed is installed.
- Wardrobe. The large bedroom is zoned into a sleeping place and a full-fledged room for clothes and accessories.
Basic installation principles:
- Any cabinets are placed close to the wall in order to save space.
- A wall with a window is the most inconvenient for storage, it is better to use the space opposite or on the side of the opening.
- In narrow rectangular bedrooms, the wardrobe is placed along a short wall, otherwise the room will seem even longer.
- Two modules on the sides of the bed + one above it are suitable for small rooms, because the spaciousness is not inferior to the coupe.
Chest of drawers
This piece of furniture cannot be called a must, but designers love it for its spaciousness and functionality. In some cases, a low console with drawers can replace a full-fledged wardrobe or serve as a great addition, especially for families with children. Models with a changing table facilitate the routine changing of crumbs, and the drawers will comfortably fit all baby things.
The area around the chest of drawers is often used for decorative purposes, installing paintings, flowers, vases, and other decorations on the countertop.
There are 4 layouts of the chest of drawers:
- On the side of the bed. One of the most popular placement methods, it is often used in narrow bedrooms so as not to clutter up the aisle.
- Opposite the sleeping place. You can put a TV on it or hang a picture.
- At the foot. An unusual but convenient idea - however, the model should be low. Then the bedspread and unnecessary pillows are removed on the countertop before going to bed.
- Instead of a bedside table. If you replace one or both of the bedside tables with dressers, the functionality of the bedroom will benefit. It looks especially advantageous when the bed is located on a long wall.
Dressing table
The rules for arranging furniture in the bedroom apply to the makeup table. To get good light, place it near a sunny window. Moreover, if you are right-handed - the window should be on the left, for left-handed people - vice versa.
The size, shape of the dressing table is determined from the dimensions of the bedroom, the wishes of the hostess, but one thing remains unchanged - the mirror. Take care of its additional lighting, so that nothing will interfere with your beauty in the evening.
A non-trivial way of placing the table - instead of a bedside table. In this case, it performs two functions at once, and you can save money.
Other furniture
Additional furniture for the bedroom is purchased in accordance with the preferences of the residents:
- Armchair... Installed near a dressing table or a shelf with books. Moms will like it as an additional seat while feeding or lulling the baby.
- Poof... Placed in the make-up area, next to the chair as a footrest, or at the foot of the bed. In the latter case, it can be a long bench, on top of which or inside it, you will clean things up before going to bed.
- Desk... If you often have to work from home, equip a window area.
- Bookcase. Book lovers will love the reading nook and the comfy armchair.

How to arrange furniture in a small bedroom to accommodate everything you need:
- Bright hues. It is the color that makes the bedroom visually more spacious - all the furniture should be in light colors.
- Minimum furniture... Buy only the essentials, everything that may be outside the bedroom - take it outside.
