Types of partition structures
There are 3 main types of glass partitions: some are immovable, like a wall, the second fold, and the third are rearranged from place to place.
Stationary
In the interior, fixed glass partitions are most often used. There are all-glass and combined (with metal, wood). Installation is carried out during the repair and involves fixing partitions to the floor, ceiling, walls.
Stationary models can function as a wall, or be more functional - supplemented with openings or doors. In this case, the door is only a part of the structure, the main barrier remains in place when opening.
Sliding
If a apartment zoning it is not always necessary and you need the opportunity to remove the glass partition, create a design in the style of a wardrobe or an accordion. That is, the elements either move along the rails, bumping into each other, or add up according to the principle of the accordion.
Both structures can be either completely closed or opened by removing the wall. Of course, even when folded, they will remain noticeable, but this method is visually lighter than the previous stationary one.
Mobile
An interesting solution in the form of glass screens in residential interiors is almost never used: on the other hand, such racks are often used to separate workplaces in open offices so as not to make expensive finishing.
When planning to use mobile partitions at home, remember: not only are they fragile, but also unstable. Therefore, in apartments with children or animals, it is better to stay on stationary models.
Pros and cons
Before getting to know glass partitions even closer, let's look at their advantages and disadvantages.
Pros:
- Leave space free. Transparent screens zone the room without visually cluttering it.
- They let in sunlight. Partitions with glass, dividing the room into 2 parts, allow you to preserve natural light in an area without a window.
- Do not let foreign smells through. Sealed doors and partitions between the kitchen and the living room will not let the aromas of dishes soak in your favorite sofa.
- Doesn't take up much space. Installing thin glass frames requires much less space than walls made of other materials.
Minuses:
- They can crash. The glass is easy to break, and it can be cut with fragments. Therefore, we use a special hardened one: it is several times stronger, which means it is safer.
- They require careful maintenance. Washing a large interroom fence from floor to ceiling, and even without streaks, is not an easy task.
- They don't hide anything. A transparent partition that separated a bathroom or bedroom cannot provide one hundred percent privacy. It is better to take a matte finish or complement the decorative wall with blackout curtains.
If the negative sides of partitions with glass are not scary, let's move on: consider the types of glass design.
Design options
The appearance of glass partitions differs not only in the shape, but also in the finish of the glass.
Clear glass
Classics of the genre - perfectly transmits light, does not look bulky even in black frames, fits most style directions.
Only one minus - everything is seen. Therefore, if you need to hide something, it is better to choose another option.
Frosted glass
After abrasive processing, the glass becomes dull: only silhouettes are visible through them. Therefore, such options are convenient to use for separating a shower room, a bathroom, a dressing room.
But matte surfaces look a little more bulky, dense.
Tinted glass
Thanks to a special film, the glasses turn into colored ones in a matter of minutes. The shade depends on personal preference - from classic black or brown to yellow, red, blue, green. Films are even mirrored.
Dark glasses are not only a decoration, but also an excellent protection from the sun. They are placed on the partition in the bedrooms opposite the southern windows.
Corrugated glass
Is there an option to keep transparency but hide what is happening? Of course - apply relief! Through the grooved inserts, only blurred silhouettes will remain visible, while the lightness of the design will remain.
The choice of patterns is wide: stripes, squares, circles, grids, drops, strokes, waves, crushed ice and more.
Sandblasted
Do ordinary glasses seem boring? On sale there are options with an abrasive pattern: a special mechanism "scratches" the transparent base and the pattern appears on it.
Most often, plant motifs are used, but there are also animals, geometry, abstraction. Some manufacturers can apply the pattern you want.
With stained glass and mosaic patterns
Bright glass mosaic and stained-glass windows, which appeared in the 7th century, are still relevant today. But you should not overdo it with such a colored decor - a stained-glass pattern across the entire wall will look too aggressive. But small screens or glass inserts will be a great accent.
Glass blocks
Popularity glass bricks growing again. Modern designers are increasingly using blocks in their designs because they are practical, inexpensive, and cute.
How exactly to use them depends on the specific task. Interior walls are erected from bricks, small fences are made in shower rooms.
Partitions with glass inserts
If you can't decide on a completely glass wall, add glass parts to plasterboard, brick or wood: they will lighten the structure, increase light transmission.
How does it look in the interior?
Most often, a glass partition can be found in the kitchen-living room. Stationary ones in this case are more airtight, but if they installed sliding ones, it is permissible to combine the rooms at any time.
The second most popular zones, between which the glass walls will look appropriate - living room + bedroom or kitchen + bedroom... With the help of glass, the sleeping area is separated in small studios or spacious open lofts.
The bedroom with a glass partition allows light to enter freely during the day, while the curtains create an intimate atmosphere in the evening.
Often, plexiglass partitions separate a small corridor in studios: due to transparency, the room remains open, but dirt from entrance zone does not penetrate into the living room.
Special screens for bathrooms are becoming more and more relevant: they are more durable and more aesthetically pleasing than curtains, although to maintain their appearance, you will have to constantly wipe them from drops and smudges.
There are ready-made designs for showers or baths, as well as the ability to order according to your size - although the price for individual orders will be higher.
Glass partitions in rooms are stylish and modern! Feel free to change drywall or brick floors on them, because in the near future they will definitely not go out of fashion.
