Balcony finishing options without glazing

The main feature of this room is that it is constantly exposed to external influences: sun, rain, wind, dust, snow, frost. Therefore, to design a loggia without glazing, the most wear-resistant materials are chosen: it is best to use a facade finish.

Floor

As a floor covering definitely will not fit:

• carpet;
• laminate;
• linoleum.

Best to arrange surface tiles, porcelain stoneware or do self-leveling floor... Another way to improve the floor is decking. It can be made of solid wood or wood-polymer composite. The first requires careful regular care, but it is 100% natural. The second does not require processing, lasts up to 50 years, but it contains special polymers that allow it not to react to heat in summer and frost in winter.

Important! The underfloor heating system must not be installed on an open surface! First, it is ineffective. Secondly, it will not last long.

Walls

Usually when building houses, balcony walls they are designed to fit the rest of the facade, and most often these are plain-colored concrete slabs, less often - painted with texture.

If the appearance of the existing finish is not satisfactory, the interior is always you can just recolor... Choose facade paints that do not wash off when exposed to water, do not fade in the sun, and do not crack from sub-zero temperatures.

Important! Paints for brick and concrete base differ primarily in elasticity. The brick shrinks and expands with temperature changes, high-quality paint from such minor fluctuations will not crack. With concrete, there will be no such problems - choose any suitable for the climatic conditions.

In addition to paint for the design of an open balcony, the following are suitable:

• Plaster... Special decorative compositions for outdoor work are available in various textures: bark beetle, fur coat, lamb. In the open air, silicone mixtures have shown themselves best, but high-quality acrylics can also be used.
• Siding... Metal, wood or plastic panels of different colors are an option for simple and quick wall decoration. The most practical of all is metal structures, wood requires processing - preliminary and regular, plastic is extremely frost-resistant.
• Tile... Tiles are laid not only on the floor - on the walls it is also appropriate! The tiles are easy to clean, she is not afraid of fluctuations in temperature and humidity, water, snow and sun.

Lucky if the walls of the house are brick - even in the "naked" form, such surfaces look amazing, do not require additional finishing.

Ceiling

The ceiling is exposed to the least impact of precipitation, scorching sun, mechanical influence. Street paint or inexpensive facade plaster is suitable for repairing it, but you can also use siding or lining.

Important! Before starting any work, make sure that the balcony roof is not leaking.If there is a leak, the first step is to eliminate it, only then proceed to the decor of the open balcony.

Fencing

The parapet on the balcony can be deaf or "transparent" - in the first case, you can hide objects in the lower part of the loggia, making the atmosphere more closed and intimate. But wrought iron railings or gratings make it possible to enjoy the views from the window even while lying or sitting in a low armchair.

Important! Be sure to take into account the composition of the family: if there are small children or animals in the house, it is necessary to equip the railing of the open balcony so as to exclude the possibility of falling out.

By the way, it is not necessary to change the lattice fences: to make a blank wall, it is enough to pull a dense awning over them.

Variants fences:

• metal (forged or welded);
• wooden;
• glass;
• brick or block;
• combined (example: metal + glass).

Important! The parapet is installed within 1-1.1 m. Below it is unsafe, above it is inconvenient.

When choosing a blank wall made of bricks or foam blocks, remember: it is imperative to leave a gap from below so that excess water flows into the street during the rain, and does not heat the apartment.

Visor

If an open balcony is without a roof, a visor will help protect it from the scorching sun, raindrops, snow, hail. To be able to equip a cozy place to relax, be sure to attach a small canopy:

• dimensions exceed the dimensions of the lower part by 10-20 cm from the front side, 20-30 cm from the sides;
• the slope of the protrusion should not be less than 30 and more than 35 degrees;
• visors are made of polycarbonate, tinted glass, slate, special fabrics.

How to equip?

The choice of furniture for an open balcony is a very controversial issue. On the one hand, you want comfort, which can only be achieved through upholstered furniture. On the other hand, practicality - and a soft chair in the rain and snow will not live even a year.

But there are still alternatives:

• metal, wooden, wicker tables and chairs - to drink coffee outdoors;

• folding sun loungers or armchairs - create a corner for sunbathing or relaxing in the shade of trees;

• frameless furniture (bean bags, armchairs, poufs, sun loungers) in waterproof fabric - items can be easily brought into the apartment and taken out back.

Folding furniture is convenient to store in the off-season - it does not take up much space in an apartment or garage. Frameless models in autumn or winter can be used inside the apartment - interior and outdoor fabrics do not exclude this possibility.

The options are not mutually exclusive: if the area of ​​the balcony allows, install a coffee table on one side, and a chaise longue or sunbed on the other.

How to decorate?

To make the balcony truly cozy, furniture and decoration alone is not enough: here, as in other rooms, the decor decides.

Decorations can be useful, such as decorative pillows on chairs or edible kitchen plants in hanging planters.

And there are simply beautiful - fresh flowers in pots, paintings on the walls, figurines, candles, compositions. There should not be a lot of these things, but they will help to arrange a balcony in the right style.

What to put on the floor?

Photos of the idea of ​​open balconies are not teeming with options with rugs, because conventional models are, at least, impractical. As a maximum, they are dangerous: at high humidity, a fungus can form under them.

But at the same time carpet - an important element of coziness and comfort: there is a big difference between stepping on cold tiles or soft pile. For open loggias, they recommend:

• Artificial turf... They do not grow moldy, are pleasant to the touch, in appearance, they feel like grass.
• Bamboo or wood mats... Provides excellent air circulation and looks stylish.
• Homespun rugs... The insecurity from water is compensated by the simplicity of care: they dry quickly, can be machine washed.

Beautiful ideas for decoration

Let's start with the furniture arrangement: who said that the seats should be located exclusively opposite the railing? Seats along the railings will help to save more free space: the view from them is no less beautiful than if you sit opposite.

Do not be afraid to use fresh flowers outside: since you can relax in the open area only in the warm season, plants will also be comfortable here during the season. Set up one large plant or many small ones.

Why not hang curtains on the loggia? Attach a bar with bright curtains between the walls: both decor and UV protection. By the way, it is not necessary to cover the entire roof with a canopy - use a compact umbrella to create a point shadow.

If ordinary flowers in pots seem to be small, create a natural green visor: fix the arch on the floor and wall, let it run along it climbing plants... With fast-growing species like hops and ivy, a dense green hiding place can be created by mid-summer.

Lack of glazing is not a reason to store unnecessary trash on the balcony! Even on a simple loggia, you can create a cozy space for relaxing on summer evenings.
