Decoding icons
Wallpaper of any manufacturer is marked with designations in the form of pictures. The pictograms on the label provide information directly about the characteristics of the wall covering.
Wallpaper care (moisture resistance)
If you plan to wash wallpaper in the future, or if the coating will be glued in a room with high humidity, you need to look for rolls with a wave icon. This designation will tell you about wallpaper care options.
Waterproof. Wallpaper is suitable for rooms with high humidity, not afraid of water ingress. Fresh stains can be removed with a damp sponge or tissue. The use of detergents is not permitted. | |
Washable. It is allowed to clean the canvas with a wet sponge or rag with the addition of gentle detergents (liquid soap, gel). | |
Super washable.Designation of wet cleaning with the use of any cleaning agents except abrasive (some powders, pastes, suspensions). | |

Wear resistant.The wave brush designation says that the canvas is cleaned with a damp sponge or brush. | |

Lightfastness
The designation of the sun indicates the lightfastness of the wallpaper. Each icon corresponds to the degree of burnout of the coating upon regular exposure to sunlight.
Moderate light fastness. Wallpaper quickly loses color. Suitable for shaded areas. | |
Relative light fastness. Partial resistance to sunlight. Not recommended for sunny rooms. | |
Lightfast wallpaper. Designation of a wall covering for rooms on the sunny side. | |
Very lightfast. The coating tends to retain color for a long time | |

Drawing docking
Marking with arrows indicates the method of aligning the canvases. The designations speak of both an arbitrary sticker and the exact joining of the elements of the picture.
No docking... Canvases are glued arbitrarily, pattern matching is not required. | |
Docking at one level... Fitting the pattern is carried out on the same level with the adjacent piece (on the packaging, the designation may be 64/0 rapport, for example). | |
Stepped alignment... On a new roll, the design should be half the height of the glued one. | |
Counter sticker... Two arrows in the opposite direction mean that each new piece is glued with a 180 ° turn. | |
Direct gluing... Sometimes there is a designation in the form of a straight arrow. It says that the canvas is glued strictly in a given direction. | |
Exact offset... The numerator is the height (step) of the picture, the denominator is the amount of displacement of the canvases. |
Glue application
Icons with a brush will tell you about the ways of gluing wallpaper. By the designation, you can understand where to apply the adhesive (on the canvas or the surface to be pasted).
Applying glue to the wall... The adhesive is applied only to the surface to be glued. | |
Applying glue to wallpaper... Only canvases are to be smeared with glue. | |
Self-adhesive wallpaper after wetting... The default canvases, before pasting, just moisten them with a damp cloth or sponge. | |
Special glue... For pasting, a special adhesive is required. |
Wallpaper gluing (editing)
Methods for applying glue and joining a picture have their own conventions. But there is a sign that speaks of a special gluing technology.
Invisible docking... Sheets are glued with an overlap of 4-6 cm, after the completion of pasting, it is carefully cut off.
Removing wallpaper (dismantling)
The markings will show how easily the wallpaper can be removed from the walls. Understanding the icons comes in handy when it comes time to update the interior.
Completely removable. The coating can be easily removed without using inventory. | |
Partially removable. They are removed in layers with a scraper, sometimes with water. New material can be glued to the lowest layer. | |
Removable after wetting... They are removed after preliminary application of the liquid to the canvas. |
Other designations
Manufacturers have provided the market with anti-vandal, fire-resistant and other wall coverings. Special icons will help to decipher unfamiliar symbols.

Letter marking
Not all manufacturers have written what is included in the composition and what properties of the coating. But the presence of letter designations is always present. Explanation of abbreviations is presented below:

Modern manufacturers strive to produce products that are safe for people and the environment. Wallpapers are tested in special laboratories, after which the trademark receives a certificate of quality and safety. The rolls are marked with special symbols that indicate the environmental safety of the product.

RAL (Gütegemeinschaft Tapete e.V.)... The symbol means that this wallpaper does not contain - heavy metals, highly toxic paints, solvents, chlorinated and enriched with fragrances. |
