Choosing the best location
The main question that you need to ask yourself before equipping the barbecue area in the country is where exactly to place it? To select the right spot for your outdoor BBQ area, make sure you meet the following requirements:
- Fire safety. Open fire should be located 10 meters from trees and wooden structures, 5 meters from brick and concrete structures.
- Calmness... A strong wind is the main enemy of open fire; it can blow out and spread burning chips. To avoid this, choose a place in the lowlands or enclose the area with a fence.
- A short distance from home... It is not very convenient when from kitchen you have to walk to the barbecue area across the entire site. Place the grill nearby, but so that smoke does not enter the living area.
- Aesthetics... The garden barbecue area still exists not only for cooking, but also as a place for good rest - especially if it is equipped with a dining table, sofa or armchairs. Take care of the beautiful view from the barbecue area.
Choose an open area also by size: what exactly will be located in the recreation area? For a small barbecue and a bench, you need clearly less space than for a whole stove complex with a gazebo or dining room.
The mangal area can be located near one of the walls of the house, but the source of fire itself must be moved away from the building.
Often the barbecue area is located near summer kitchen in the open air: this is logical, because you do not have to ply around a suburban area with plates and trays, everything will be at hand.
It is a good idea to organize a barbecue area in the country near other important objects: a swimming pool, a bath. Then the recreation area will be large-scale and include a lot of entertainment: from grilling to swimming.
Which type is best to use and when?
In order not to overload your head with terms, you should know only two basic design options for the barbecue area: open and closed.
Open - a recreation area without a roof, the most free planning. The main advantage of the patio is the simplicity of construction and the budget of the project. All you need is to choose a site, put a non-combustible floor covering, install a brazier, grill or stove.
Advice! Use paving slabs, brick, stone, concrete as a foundation.
Closed - the main difference from the first is the presence of a roof. The design of the barbecue area can be made in the form of a full-fledged grill house, summer kitchen, gazebos, platforms with a canopy or pergola... A closed place for a barbecue requires more costs and efforts during construction, but at the same time it will be possible to hide in it from the scorching sun, rain, wind and other bad weather. Grill houses can be used even in winter, especially when equipped with stoves or potbelly stoves.
Important! When designing a closed barbecue area in the country, do not forget about the chimney: it will save the place to rest from smoke.
In addition to the type of construction, it is important to decide on the main element of the barbecue area: the source of fire. The options are:
- Standard portable metal brazier. Its advantage is its compactness, it can be carried from place to place.
- Stationary brick brazier. A bit like an oven, but more open. Long-term option for a holiday in the country.
- Charcoal grill. Not very suitable for grilling on skewers, but compact and ergonomic.
- Electric grill. Almost no smoke, ideal for a summer kitchen with electricity, meets high safety requirements.
- Stationary oven. Versatile: can replace the brazier, oven, grill. Suitable for both frying meat and baking pies.
Important! When installing a brazier or stove in a closed wooden house, make the base under it stone or iron - this will protect the building from fire, even if coal accidentally falls to the floor.
As an addition, take a look at tandoors, cauldron ovens, braziers, smokehouses.
In addition to functional sources of fire, there are decorative ones that help create coziness and warmth. A round campfire will ideally fit into the open recreation area: place sun loungers or comfortable chairs around and enjoy the bikes around the campfire even every evening.
How to equip a barbecue: furniture and lighting?
The barbecue area starts with a barbecue, but does not end there. A convenient table for cutting food, storing the necessary utensils or serving for cooking will come in handy. This can be a small countertop (they are often made part of a barbecue structure, ideally in a small barbecue area), or a whole kitchen set with drawers and doors (important for a closed space, summer kitchen).
The dining area is often made right there: it includes a dining table with chairs or benches. Indoors, the seats can be soft, and in an area without a roof, use outdoor furniture that is extremely UV and moisture resistant. Metal, plastic, or wickerwork will do. Top with cushions made of waterproof outdoor fabric for added comfort. Ordinary ones will do, but you will have to bring them into the house every time.
The improvement of a large area with a barbecue can be continued by organizing a lounge: put sun loungers or sun loungers, break a fire or dig a small decorative pond. It will be convenient to relax here while food is being prepared or after a hearty dinner.
Advice! Furniture for the lounge area can be made independently from ordinary pallets.
When drawing in your head a plan of an ideal relax space with a barbecue, do not forget about lighting. Firstly, there should be a bright lantern or ceiling lamp above the cooking area - otherwise, at dusk, you simply won't be able to understand whether the food has time to cook.
Secondly, there is a need for lighting over the dining table. The easiest way is to hang 1-2 (depending on size) ceiling lights.
And the last nuance: decorative light. A garland or muted lanterns will come in handy when you just enjoy the fresh air and sincere communication with loved ones.
How can you decorate?
When arranging the barbecue area, the decor plays one of the important roles: it is he who will make the overall look complete. The choice of jewelry depends on the type of barbecue construction.
Open
It is not handy to arrange vases or hang pictures in the open air, so the decor here will be as natural as possible, inscribed in the overall landscape design:
- Flowers... The most inexpensive and effective way to create a festive mood. Vases on the foundation flower beds around, vertical beds - show your imagination and distribute your favorite plants throughout the territory.
- Wattle... A traditional wattle fence is suitable as a decorative fence and for zoning - hang pots on its pegs, plant beautiful plants nearby.
- Climbing plants. Loaches - perfect decorators! They grow rapidly (especially hops, ivy, girlish grapes), create shadow, protect from the wind. Put up the supports above the dining area and let the plants grow freely - by the middle of summer you will have a practically closed area.
- Pergolas... Beautiful mesh roof structures will not protect you from rain, but will add a special charm to your garden. Plants can also curl along them.
- Stones... Natural material looks perfect in the bosom of nature: they are used to lay out fences, firewoods, garden paths, and ennoble the grill.
- Bonfire... We have already mentioned this option and will say it again: an organized fire will make any site more comfortable.
- Pond... A decorative pond with aquatic plants, floating figures and lighting is pleasing to the eye and helps to relax.
Closed
Here, the scenery will be something in between a summer house and a house:
- Flowers in pots, vases... Dead or fresh bouquets, potted plants instead of open ground. Arrange or hang wherever you want.
- Garlands and lanterns... Light is underestimated by many, but in the absence of open fire, it is the bulbs that will create coziness.
- Textile... Since there is no need to be afraid of rain and wind, give yourself free rein and buy bright beautiful textiles: tablecloths, pillows, blankets, curtains.
- Kitchenware... Dishes such as a samovar or a beautiful dish are decoration in themselves. Bundles of garlic, onions, and peppers are also appropriate. By the way, the table can be kept served: it always looks appropriate.
- Baskets... A very country accessory: inside you can store firewood, food, utensils.
Design ideas
The layout and dimensions of the space largely determine the design. A small area will look beautiful with a forged barbecue: on sale you can find models with a roof (protects food from the rain), convenient hooks for storing shovels, poker, a step from below for firewood.
The stationary barbecue area at the dacha is located on a large free area. The stove can be built in the Russian tradition or give it an oriental shape. Consider the need to store firewood, tools, utensils. It's a good idea to have a built-in countertop.
The complex as a whole is performed in various styles:
- Modern. A lot of glass, metal, concrete, straight shape.
- Oriental. Bright colors, unusual roof, round shapes.
- Chalet. Combination of wood and stone finishes, use of large beams, cruciform intersections.
- High tech. Clean lines, jalousie walls, straight roof, panoramic windows.
- Boho. Lots of textiles (pillows, curtains), flowers, natural decor.
- Provence. White color, elegant furniture, carved shutters.
- Country. The main difference is natural rough wood used in construction, decoration, furniture, decor.
