Features and psychology
Not everyone dares to use black in design. Firstly, it is surrounded by an aura of mystery, mystery and magic. Secondly, color is associated not only with fear, but also with drama, even tragedy.
However, if you throw away all prejudices, you can see the positive sides of the shade: restraint, sophistication, changeability, sexuality and efficiency. The perception of a black interior largely depends on additional shades: it makes other colors brighter and looks different against their background, largely adopting the properties of companions.
Experts recommend not to overdo it with black in the interior - in large quantities it looks depressing, presses on the central nervous system. To prevent this from happening, it should be used sparingly: in accents, to highlight shades and objects.
When planning a room design in black, keep in mind that it is like no other absorbs light: This means any room will look much smaller (especially if the lighting is incorrect).
Variety of shades
Christian Lacroix wrote: “There are many shades of black: delicate black - veils, matte and sad black - crepe, intense royal black - velvet, ... joyful and official black - varnish”.
Although the designer spoke exclusively about fabrics, variations of black materials also exist in cabinet furniture: glossy facades, for example, look like patent leather, and matte ones resemble crepe or matting.
In addition to textures, there is also a subtone: this is no longer a pure shade, but a mixed one: for example, bluish-black gives a blue flare with a certain glow. By the same principle, there are purple, brown, red, violet shades.
A separate category is the admixture of white. The final tone depends on its quantity: anthracite, coal, resin, soot, onyx. At first glance, it may seem that all blacks are the same, but a closer look shows the opposite.
Finishing options
The use of black in the interior does not have to be limited to small details: it is great for walls, floors, furniture and even ceilings.
Black walls
The graphite plane will definitely attract attention, will become accent. Several dark vertical surfaces can completely change the perception of space, correct the geometry of the room.
Features of black walls in the interior:
- Suitable for any style - from classic to pure white scandi.
- Requires bright lighting - best used in eastern or southern rooms.
- Make the space colder - you need a cozy decor.
- They are an excellent backdrop for light furniture and bright accessories.
Black ceiling
At first glance, it may seem that the resinous color on the ceiling will visually "drop" it, make the room lower. In fact, the opposite is true: a monochromatic coal ceiling looks boundless and high.
If the pure black color in the interior overhead is intimidating, complement the ceiling with slats of treated wood or plaster stucco. The bulky chandelier also distracts the eye from the ceiling paint.
Designers do not recommend make a coal ceiling in all rooms, usually it is used in the bathroom or bedroom, less often in the living room, hallway.
Important! In apartments with ceilings below 260 cm, install glossy stretch fabrics: they reflect light, make the room look taller.
Black floor
Speaking from the practical side, black floor color in the interior - the most difficult, capricious to care for. Any specks are visible on it, so constant washing is required. If you look at it through the eyes of a designer, such a floor covering is universal.
Firstly, it can be combined with any interior. Secondly, it allows you to maintain harmony, because the floor should be darker than the walls and furniture. Therefore, if you have a robot vacuum cleaner or are ready to clean the floor every day, feel free to choose onyx for its decoration.
How to use black furniture?
If the table is a more or less familiar detail, then a noble dark sideboard or console is already something fresh. A stylish combination is obtained with white walls: monochrome is always appropriate and popular. For those who are not afraid of the gloomy effect, the total black option is suitable, when coal furniture is installed in the same room.
Black sofas Looks best in leather, but the exquisite velvet will also have a lasting effect.
Important! Dark colored pile upholstery is a magnet for dust, pet hair and other dirt.
How black decor, lighting and textiles look
The predominance of black in the interior is not for you? Use it in small accessories.
Textile
Curtains perfectly absorb light and they do not have to be matched to the rest of the details - the color is combined with any other. A velvet pillow and a warm fleece blanket will help to add sophistication to upholstered furniture.
Light fixtures
The shops have a large selection of sconces, chandeliers, floor lamps, table lamps with dark shades. Buy all sources from the same collection, or choose one accent - for example, a gold-edged chandelier.
Paintings
The images themselves should not be deaf and dark, but rather about frames: contrasting baguettes unite even a mixed composition of works of art or posters.
What colors go well with black?
The possibilities of combining black in the interior are endless! Like white or gray, it suits any shade, it is basic. Consider the most spectacular duets and trios.
- Yellow. A warm and bright sunny hue softens graphite and looks brighter against its background.
- Pink. Do not take fuchsia, give preference to a dusty rose: a compromise of tenderness and brutality will give an ambiguous effect.
- Red + blue. If the combination with red looks vulgar, then blue softens the perception, balances this pair.
- Emerald. To make malachite shine beautifully on a dark background, choose luminous materials: gloss, velvet, glass.
- White... Monochrome is always relevant. To make the contrast less vivid, add an intermediate gray.
For what styles is it appropriate?
Black interior design, like the shade itself, is not limited to style directions. It is appropriate in almost all modern variations, the only exception is provence and boho.
- Scandinavian... The base should be left white, and the decor, furniture, textiles should be made dark. Combine with warm wood or wicker textures for a cozy feel.
- Loft... If there is a place for an interior with a dark ceiling or walls, then in industrial design. Even brickwork can be decorated with matte paint.
- High tech... Gloss comes in place of matte textures, black color in the interior is diluted with white by about half. Don't forget the bright backlighting.
- Classic... An unusual interpretation still looks restrained: choose furniture with carved facades, glue wall moldings, add gold details.
How does it look in the interior of the rooms?
- Kitchen... Allows the least amount of dark, otherwise it will be uncomfortable to be in it. Handles on the fronts, separate chairs, checkerboard tiles on the floor.
- Bathroom... It is permissible to make a dark ceiling or floor, highlight one wall with glossy tiles. In combination with white plumbing, you get a monochrome harmony.
- Living room. Can be total black or use charcoal exclusively on accents, furniture. The decoration combines paint, stone, wallpaper, wood.
- Bedroom... The black interior is soothing, but in large quantities, the tone produces a depressing effect. To avoid this, dilute with white, gray, beige.
