DIY curtains on hinges with Velcro
For the convenience of removing curtains from the eaves, you can sew Velcro to the loops.
Materials and tools:
- sewing machine,
- iron,
- scissors,
- pins,
- cardboard,
- the cloth.
Operating procedure:
- The width of the curtain is calculated by the formula: from the distance from the eaves to the desired length, subtract the length of the loops, then add 1 cm for processing the top and 6 cm for processing the bottom.
- Calculation for loops. The width of the loop (any) is multiplied by 2 and add 2 cm to the resulting number for allowances. Buttonhole length * 2 cm + 4 cm for allowances.
- The number of loops is calculated as follows: the width of the curtain is divided by the width of one loop. On the curtain, the loops are located as follows: the number of loops multiplied by their width, subtract from the width of the finished curtain, and the resulting number is divided by the number of distances between the loops. For example, 75-5 * 5 = 50.50/4 = 12.5, which means that every 12.5 cm you will need to pin the loop with the seam up.
- Finish the side seams of the curtain. Mark the allowance, iron the fold, and sew from the wrong side.
- We prepare the loops. Roll the fabric cuts of the required width and length face inward and sew along the length with an indent of 1 cm from the edge. Steam the loop with the cardboard inside so that the seam does not lie. Unscrew the product, placing the seam in the center, and steam the seam with the cardboard inside.
- Sew pinned hinges.
- We prepare the facing with a length along the width of the curtain and a width of 5 cm. Steam it.
- Attach the curtains to the top from the front, covering the hinges with it. Pin and sew, leave a 1 cm free edge at the top.
- Steam off the seam and free edge, then tuck the side edge and pin.
-
Apply a stiff Velcro tape equal to the width of the loop under each loop and sew from the inside with one line.
- Fold in the edge of the piping and sew, making an indent from the edge of 1 mm.
- Place the soft part of the Velcro on the free edge of the tie on the front side, equal to the width of the loop and the height of the rigid part of the Velcro. Sew.
- Sew Velcro on all sides from wrong side.
- Process the bottom of the curtain. Iron and sew the delayed seam allowance. The velcro curtain with hinges is ready and can be hung on the window.
