Recommendations for the selection of fasteners
Different types of curtains correspond to a certain type of fastening. For example, it is illogical to hook products with hooks using crabs, and roll-type curtains cannot be hung on hooks. But there are general tips on how to choose a mount:
- It is recommended to think over the method of hanging the curtains at the stage of repair.
- The method of placing curtains should be appropriate for the interior of the room - on a cornice, strong rope, ceiling, Velcro, etc.
- If this cornice, then you need to select it to match the furniture or flooring. Usually rings, loops, drawstrings, clips or eyelets are attached to it. With low ceilings, it is better to mount the cornice directly to the ceiling and choose hooks on rollers as fasteners. Installation of a ceiling structure will visually make the room taller.
- It is better not to hang heavy and large curtains on plastic fastening accessories, but to give preference to reliable metal ones.
- It is advisable to decorate a narrow window opening with curtains on a long round cornice.
Methods for attaching curtains
- To the cornice. Classic placement of fabrics. There is a large selection of similar products on the modern market. They differ in shape, assembly, material and color. The structure can be fixed both to the wall and to the ceiling.
- Fastening systems without eaves. If the design does not involve curtain rods, then the curtains are attached directly to the windows, ceiling or wall. Iron or transparent PVC hooks, rigid rope, adhesive tape and even a dry processed branch can act as accessories. There are no restrictions, it all depends on the imagination of the designer.
Mounting options
- Ceiling... One of the most common mounting locations. Ideal for rooms with low ceilings.
- Wall... The classic place for attaching curtains. Almost any fastener can be mounted on it. This format is mainly used for weighty and fabric canvases.
- Casement... More often they place on it roll, Roman and bamboo models, as well as textile and metal jalousie.
- Frame... As in the previous version, it involves the placement of miniature curtains that can be conveniently folded.
Types of fastenings to the cornice
Fastening curtains on the drawstring
The design is like a pocket through which a tubular or string cornice passes. With this method of installation, the top of the curtains or curtains is invisible.
This type of fastening is not suitable for heavy fabrics that are used in the classic or baroque style. Curtains on the curtains are most often found in rustic styles.
Velcro
This method is used when the curtain is not supposed to move along the pipe (Roman, lambrequins, Japanese panels). Looks good in the style of minimalism, where brevity is welcomed. Also, the use of Velcro is appropriate when the canvases move along the supporting bar, as in the photo below:
On grommets
These are rings that are sewn directly into the fabric base of the curtains. It looks aesthetically pleasing and exclusive. In terms of durability and practicality, they have no equal. Such curtains are capable of withstanding heavy loads - they cannot be torn off, except perhaps together with the cornice.
This type of curtain fastening is not only practical, but also versatile, as it suits any interior style: from modern to classic. It is easy to fix such curtains - the tubular cornice is simply threaded through the rings.
On the rings
One of the most common types of curtain fastening to the cornice. It is a ring with hooks or clips that can hold very difficult types of fabric. Sometimes the rings are sewn to the fabric, and, if necessary, the curtains are removed with them.
Such fasteners for curtains can be found both in classical styles and in modern ones: in Scandinavian, fusion and contemporary. Country and Provence style rings will also be appropriate.
On hinges
Convenient and practical installation option. You can make the hinges yourself, and to attach the curtains to a pipe or rail, you just need to thread them through the cornice. There are also loops with fasteners (buttons or Velcro), which makes it easy to dismantle the curtains.
This option is suitable for any interior, as long as the hinges are made of the same material as the curtains. In the children's room, eyelets, contrasting in color, will look unusual.
Magnetic
A point type of fastening, in which the curtains on the cornice hold decorative magnets. Suitable for modern interiors. Magnets can be invisible or, conversely, stand out with their original design. Despite the reliable fixation of the fabric, not suitable for heavy webs.
Braid
Equipped with several rows of hinges. Fastening curtains to windows with hinges is suitable for heavy curtains. Thanks to the built-in drawstring, they can be draped to the desired wave depth. Looks great in classic interiors.
On tape
Quite a simple way to attach the canvas. The ribbon is invisible and pulls together creating a picturesque drape. Suitable for different types of curtains, looks good on modern plastic curtain rods without unnecessary decorative elements.
On hooks
The most inexpensive option. It has many varieties, among which is the French hook for "snail" curtains. Not suitable for too heavy fabric curtains.
On clothespins
Clips, also called crocodile or crab clips, are made of metal or plastic. They are versatile in that they easily fix the fabric and make it possible to adjust the length of the curtain, make folds, etc.
Drawstring
Convenient do-it-yourself decorative mount. Suitable for mounting light to medium-weight fabrics. The ties look very romantic, so this decor is appropriate in rustic styles (country, Provence), as well as in children's rooms.
Types of fastening without eaves
- Universal sash mounts (brackets). Compact fastening element, used to accommodate roller blinds and pleated blinds, as well as horizontal blinds.
- Velcro... This method does not imply a gap between the curtain and the wall. Suitable for rooms where complete blackout is required.
- With self-tapping screws. A versatile and easy installation method.
- Double sided tape... A practical handy way to hang fabric and other canvases on the window sash without drilling. Not reliable enough and not able to withstand heavy loads.
