Flowering plants
Aspidistra
Like all representatives of liliaceae, this plant blooms - but it does this extremely rarely, especially in shaded areas. But you can be sure that even without sunlight, the flower will continue to grow, delight you with lush greenery.
Aspidistra is not just a shade-loving indoor plant, but absolutely unpretentious: thanks to its strong roots, it will not even feel 1-2 missed watering.
Important! Variegated varieties without bright lighting will lose their bright color, they can become monochromatic.
Anthurium
A spectacular inhabitant of northern windows with large fleshy leaves. His flowers are also large, the shade depends on the variety: from white to bright red, even black.
"Male happiness" cannot be called the most shade-tolerant indoor plant, but without direct sunlight it feels quite comfortable.
Poinsettia
In our country, this unpretentious plant is considered a Christmas flower, sold mainly on New Year's Eve. But proper care, timely transplantation can do the trick, preserving the wonderful spurge for many years. Grows well in the back of the northern room.
In order for the poinsettia to bloom by Christmas, they even artificially reduce the sunny day to 10-12 hours, starting in November.
Phalaenopsis
The most common, unpretentious orchid variety. This houseplant can live on a windowsill on the north side, but to bloom successfully, you need additional lighting.
The diffused light can be increased using reflectors (mirrors, foil) - in such conditions, orchids not only grow in the shade, but even bloom.
Fuchsia
One of those flowers that, despite the love of light, grow well, even bloom in the shade. Correct feeding, timely watering, high-quality soil guarantee the beauty of the plant and long flowering.
Decorative deciduous
Aucuba
The most inept gardeners are always advised to grow a cotoneaster on the site.... Aucuba is the closest relative of the cotoneaster, therefore it is a salvation for indoor floriculture.
A shade-loving and shade-tolerant flower with small variegated leaves is physically capable of growing where no other plant survives. Therefore, it can be safely placed in an unlit hallway or in the back corner of the bedroom.
Sansevieria
This potted palisade withstands truly Spartan conditions, therefore, it has been grown in office centers since the days of the USSR.
There are many subspecies, but the most common is with long, protruding flat leaves, a yellow border around the edge. There is also a small-leaved sansa, ideal for small spaces. Round-leaved ones are often woven into braids - it looks very decorative.
Aglaonema
Even without sunlight, this plant will not lose its bright color. It cannot be called 100% shade-loving, but rather suitable for any conditions, from shade to bright sun. The only thing he doesn't like is a draftso take care to protect your plant from being blown out.
Advice! Aglaonema is excellent at absorbing various toxins, so its ideal location is a kitchen or dining room.
Philodendron
The subspecies of this indoor plant are strikingly different in appearance, but they have two things in common - the elongated shape of the leaf, independence from direct sunlight. The only caveat - all the beauty of the leaves (streaks, unexpected colors - white, red, bronze, shine or dullness) may not open in the shade, but diffused lighting, including artificial, should help.
Fern
To make sure that you have a shade-loving plant in front of you, remember how ferns grow in nature - in the thick of a dark forest, where sunlight practically does not reach. Habitual living conditions also tell us that ferns do not like dry air - the humidity must be high, so they are even suitable for a bathroom.
In the dark, coolness, the plant feels good, does not require climate change during the year, a bright dormant period in winter, and does not observe a phase of active rapid growth in summer.
Advice! To reduce the amount of watering, cover the soil with moss or other suitable material. And ordinary spraying will help to increase the humidity.
Chlorophytum
A popular short green pet in offices and apartments. It gained its wide distribution due to the minimum requirements for care, beautiful appearance, high ability to purify the air. Several pots of chlorophytum in the allergy sufferer's bedroom will allow better breathing even during the hay fever season.
The plant can withstand even full shade, but for this it is better to grow it in the right conditions from the very beginning or gradually accustom it to the lack of light, shading more and more each time.
Soleirolia
An attractive cap of small delicate leaves in the wild belongs to the ground cover species. Since it originally grew on rocks under boulders, in dark crevices, the shadow of gelksine is not terrible.
Generally a plant can be called fearless: grows in warmth and coolness, does not stress during sudden changes in temperature or humidity, feels good in winter on a cool window or under a draft.
Climbing plants
Scindapsus
A beautiful, fast-growing, unpretentious representative of the aroids has only one drawback - toxicity... But these shade-loving indoor plants can be placed under the ceiling without worrying that children or pets can reach it.
The scindapsus is rather not weaving, but creeping - it can be hanging ampelous, or curl upwards along the support, like a liana. Coloring makes this plant decorative and deciduous: in addition to the usual monochromatic (dark green or light, almost yellow), they are also found with white spots, white or gold stains. Lack of sunlight will slightly affect the coloration, but it will not completely erase it.
Tradescantia
Known to many flower growers, the classic representative of ampelous. Hanging the planter on the wall or placing it on an open shelf, you get completely independent, virtually maintenance-free lively decor. Tradescantia grow quickly, multiply easily, do not suffer from unsuitable soil or hard water.
Ivy
None of the varieties like direct rays, but the lighter the leaves, the lighter the place the loach needs. But the dark green representatives of the serpentine quietly grow even in absolute shade. Ivy requires supports, garters on which it can curl - therefore think over the location in advance, it will not be easy to transfer the structure in the future.
Palm trees and large trees
Dracaena
A charming fluffy palm tree with narrow long leaves on a split stem. It gets along well away from windows, in dimly lit corners. The elegant appearance will help to decorate any room: from an office, to a bedroom or a nursery. For successful cultivation, provide a stable air humidity, a temperature of about 20-25 degrees.
Monstera
As ferns grow in our forests, so monsters live in the tropical jungle - in the absolute absence of illumination, with very high humidity. When starting a monster in an apartment, make sure that in the future you have enough space for this powerful plant with huge dissected decorative leaves.
It grows quickly, taking up a large amount of space around it - both in height and in width.
Important! Due to the size of the leaves, it is believed that monstera absorbs oxygen at night, produces carbon dioxide - so keeping it in bedrooms is not recommended. But for a living room, dining room or study it will be a wonderful decor.
Alocasia
A decorative alternative to the monstera with large, but narrow, fleshy leaves, characterized by light, noticeable wide veins (seen in the photo).
She is unpretentious to light, but she makes a lot of requirements for other aspects of care: humidity of air, soil, soil composition, temperature stability, and a sustained rest period until spring. Therefore, alocasia is considered a plant for experienced housewives, because without understanding the nuances of care, the flower can simply be ruined.
Plants that love partial shade
Zamioculcas
Because of the second name - the dollar tree - many consider it to be a relative of the money tree, that is, crassula and take care of it like a succulent. But this is a fundamentally wrong approach, zamioculcas is from the aroid family, therefore, it requires a completely different, in contrast to succulents, care.
Can grow without direct sunlight, diffused light is still necessary - place the pot in a shaded place near a window or once a month place in a well-lit space for a few days.
Important! Zamioculcas does not like neighbors nearby - it can wither itself or another plant can survive. Therefore, it is better to grow it away from other green inhabitants of the house.
Crassula
The fat woman or the money tree does not belong to the flowers that love dark places. But on any windowsill, whether it is illuminated east or shaded west, it feels quite comfortable.
Important! In partial shade conditions, homemade crassula should be watered as rarely as possible. With succulents, it is better not to water than to arrange a plentiful shower once again. You cannot spray a fat woman!
Ficus
There are an incredible number of varieties of this flower, so whether your home resident is suitable for partial shade can only be found out by knowing its exact name. In fact, most ficuses do not suffer, do not die from lack of sun, the maximum that can happen is a slowdown in growth or a moderate decrease in the brightness of the colors of variegated representatives.
Spathiphyllum
The plant is quite harmful, but not in relation to the sun - it easily tolerates shade or partial shade. But it does not cope well with low temperatures (you need heat at least 18 degrees all year round), drafts (with constant blowing, it quickly dies). The only caveat - in low light, you can't wait for flowering, and the leaf will become smaller.
Don't choose a plant for shade just for looks. Before buying, also make sure that the flower will withstand the conditions in which it will live.
