Tiered ceilings
It was once fashionable to decorate ceilings with plasterboard, building several tiers and supplying them with multi-colored lighting. Also, the ceilings were decorated with wave-like structures, embedding many spotlights. Such a design attracted attention and seemed luxurious, and moreover, it was expensive.
Today ceilings are made even, simple: they do not overload the space and look laconic.
Horns and skins of animals
Another element that makes the interior look dated. Elk antlers were fashionable in the 90s and served not only as a decor, but also as a kind of hanger. Environmental friendliness is in trend todaytherefore horns, stuffed animals and skins are not welcome in the interior.
They are appropriate if the house is decorated in style chalet, but for a city apartment it is recommended to use accessories made of faux fur, as well as plaster, wood and cardboard.
Furniture wall
If you dream of a modern interior, you should get rid of the bulky wall from the Soviet past and the standard kit from the 2000s.
I want novelty for little money - strong furniture can be divided into components and do it yourself.
Upholstered furniture is more suitable for arranging the living room (sofa, armchair), Coffee table, TV cabinet and book rack. It is better to store stocks in a pantry or built-in closet.
Heavy curtains with lambrequins
Previously, massive curtains with folds and ruffles boggled the imagination, seemed like guests of style baroque and acted as the main decoration of the living room. But they did not turn small-sized buildings into palaces, they looked alien and accumulated a large amount of dust.
In modern design, dense practical fabrics and roller blinds: no professional assistance is required to hang them, and maintenance is easy.
Blankets on furniture
To protect the upholstery of scarce furniture, many owners cover it with blankets. This solution has several drawbacks: the bedspreads make the interior cheaper, mask the real upholstery, and often slip. At the same time, upholstered furniture does not protect against dust and odors, which, over time, will still require dry cleaning.
If you are purchasing a sofa, choose a product with a removable cover, or with upholstery in non-marking shades. Remember that being too frugal can undermine all your interior decorating efforts.
Lacquered lining
This material rightfully deserves respect and love from apartment owners: the relatively inexpensive lining is environmentally friendly, easy to install and gives the atmosphere a coziness. But choosing a transparent varnish for its protection, it is easy to deprive the interior of its individuality, moreover, this technique has long been outdated.
More interesting decorative coatings for lining - oil, alkyd-based enamels, acrylate and water-based paints.
Stretch ceiling
PVC canvases are very practical, moreover, they are quickly assembled and serve for a long time. But defiantly glossy canvases, as well as multi-colored ceilings with photo printing are no longer relevant and are considered a sign of bad taste.
In modern interiors, slightly beige or grayish coatings should be used, which seem to be a painted surface and visually increase the height of the room.
"Torn" decorative stone
Facing with artificial stone is still relevant: it is successfully used in the design of facades of houses, as well as fireplaces and accent walls. But the previously popular technique of decorating with stone tiles, when the elements seemed to come to naught, is already outdated. The stone must have clear boundaries, otherwise the interior looks cheap.
Furniture kits
Another way to make your living room featureless is to purchase a sofa and an armchair from the same collection. Furniture sets are no longer in trend, because they demonstrate the indifference of the owners when decorating a room that ultimately resembles a showroom.
To abandon a ready-made solution requires courage and taste, but a harmoniously assembled interior with different pieces of furniture will make the house memorable, stylish and original.
Template prints
Sandblasted drawing on the mirror of the cabinet in the form of flowers, large lettering on the upholstery or curtains, wall stickers in the form of patterns - designed to decorate the living room, they make it banal and even vulgar.
Today, the variety of prints is so great that it will not be difficult to choose an image that does not look like a stencil. But even in this case, they should be strictly dosed: for example, transferred to pillows.
Fashionable, "time-tested" things in a few years turn into caricatures for future generations, deprive the interior of individuality and quickly get bored. Decorate the living room, listening to your taste, and not to the recommendations of a furniture consultant, add original elements to the decor without overloading it - and the room will delight you with comfort for a long time.
