Spatulas and cutlery
The number of forks and spoons depends on how many people live in your home and how often you host. The most convenient way to store cutlery and spatulas in the drawer of the cabinet, sorting them into the compartments of the tray. But if the kitchen is spacious and there is enough space on the countertop, you can place forks and spoons in a special vertical rack.
Stainless steel appliances are the best combination of reasonable price and excellent quality.
Use a kitchen apron if you want your appliances to be close at hand and did not litter the countertop: help roof rails with hooks and containers.
Pans
The minimum program includes only 3 containers:
- Small saucepan, 1.5 l, for cooking "one by one", reheating or boiling eggs. Can be replaced with a saucepan with a handle.
- Medium for preparing garnishes for 2-3 liters.
- Large saucepan for soups or stewed fruit, about 4–5 liters.
If you want to replace your old containers that have become unusable or have lost their attractive appearance, choose the pots in the set: they have the same design and can be easily inserted into each other, saving space.
Knives
"Chef's Three" of the necessary knives:
- Versatile for slicing meat, fish and chopping vegetables. Choose a quality product, because it bears the main load.
- Bread knife with teeth.
- A small knife for peeling vegetables.
Do not store knives with other cutlery: The blades must not touch other metal objects. Place them on a magnetic board, in a special compartment or holder with a sharpener.
How do you know when to sharpen a knife? Professionals advise doing this once every two weeks, but it is better to focus on your feelings: if the knife stops cutting and begins to shred, sharpening is necessary.
Frying pan
This is another thing that is difficult to do without. At least two pans should be in every kitchen. The first made of cast iron or stone - 26–28 cm in diameter for stewing and frying meat, cooking pilaf and cutlets. The second - shallow, 24 cm in diameter: for pancakes, scrambled eggs and toasting vegetables. A traditional non-stick skillet will do.
We do not recommend placing the pans on top of each other so as not to scratch the coating: there are special stands with dividers for them, allowing you to use the space to the maximum. Another interesting storage option is to hang fixtures by the handles.
Cutting boards
Without them, it is impossible to cut vegetables and meat, not damaging the tabletop... It's believed that there should be two boards - for raw and ready-to-eat foods, since bacteria after meat and fish cannot be removed by ordinary rinsing under the tap. In fact, it is much more convenient to have three boards. and use one smaller one for slicing bread.
We do not recommend purchasing boards made of plastic: they slide on the surface and quickly deteriorate due to numerous scratches. It is simply dangerous to use such a product. Most available and practical board materials are wood and bamboo: they look good, do not absorb pathogens and do not blunt knives.
You can store cutting boards on hooks or in a well-ventilated vertical dish drainer. There are also special shelves-holders that allow you to use empty areas with benefit.
Deep bowl
it versatile item for cooking: you can put already cut food in it, mix salad, put the prepared dish in the refrigerator. To knead dough and minced meat, you need a large bowl - you can purchase a set of two or three containers and put them into each other.
Choose products made of stainless steel or glass: they are environmentally friendly and safe. Use good quality thick plastic when cooking with a mixer.
Textile accessories
Potholders, kitchen towels, sponges and rags indispensable during cooking, cleaning and washing dishes. These things should always be at hand, but they rarely decorate the kitchen with their appearance, therefore, when decorating the interior, it is worth maintaining a balance: put some of the fixtures in closed cabinets, and leave the most necessary ones in plain sight.
The modern market offers many interesting solutions for a beautiful and practical storage of sponges and rags.
The most durable and high-quality rags are made from microfiber and bamboo.
The listed minimum items are necessary if you are cooking at home and are trying to reduce the amount of kitchen utensils in favor of free space.
