Finishes and materials
Modern prefers innovative and practical materials:
- Apron. To decorate the apron area, glass, metal or traditional ceramic tiles are used. To diversify the surrounding space, the apron is decorated with a glass panel combined with photo printing, which gives the interior an additional perspective.
- Walls. Glossy paint, washable vinyl wallpaper or pvc panels are used to create a flawlessly even background. They prefer a plain cladding or coating with soft patterns in the form of wavy lines or stripes.
- Floor. To achieve a smooth surface without seams, the kitchen is decorated with a self-leveling floor. Also, the plane can be finished with tiles, linoleum, porcelain stoneware, parquet or moisture-resistant laminate. The most expensive option is natural wood cladding.
- Ceiling. Mirror stretch ceiling is ideal for modern design. A simple painted plane, plasterboard construction, plastic or metal rack model will look organic.
- Doors. In the manufacture of interior doors, natural wood and plastic are mainly used. Art Nouveau design welcomes the presence of smooth canvases in natural coffee, dark brown, chocolate, burgundy or wenge color products.
The main quality of finishing in this style is its practicality and low price category. Materials are selected to be wear-resistant, moisture-resistant and not subject to mechanical stress.
Kitchen color
The Art Nouveau style is characterized by a rich color palette. It is found in perfectly flat, clean and most often glossy textures.
The kitchen looks really impressive in white tones. It represents a kind of golden mean between classic and modern trends. The light interior is sometimes diluted with other more contrasting colors.
A common solution is futuristic sky or turquoise shades. For a south-facing room, you can choose a calming and cool blue color scheme.
Black shades in the interior are found as accents that favorably emphasize the white and steel colors. An avant-garde option would be a coal-colored kitchen.
Monochrome gray tones are distinguished by a delightful, non-trivial appearance and a sense of a special sustained style.
Furniture and appliances
Modern style assumes functional, practical, roomy and really necessary furniture.
Lunch group
In a small kitchen, folding tables are installed, a narrow bar counter with metal legs, or they combine a tabletop with a window sill. It will also be appropriate to use two-seater low sofas with rounded shapes, laconic plastic chairs or futuristic chairs with curved outlines.
The table is the centerpiece of the dining area. Basically, its design is rectangular or oval. For the manufacture of products, wood, plastic, glass or metal are preferred. The furnishings can be either calm or bright colors.
Kitchen set
For Art Nouveau, wooden sets are suitable, with a stone countertop made of marble or granite, with facades painted with enamel or covered with foil. A distinctive feature of the style is considered to be designs with horizontal cabinets, complemented by fittings in the form of narrow steel handles.
Such a style direction is perfect for decorating both a small kitchen in a Khrushchev-type apartment and a spacious dining room in a country house. For a small room, linear or angular headsets are chosen, and a large space is equipped with U-shaped structures with an island or a spacious dining table in the center.
Storage systems
For convenience, the interior provides for various storage systems with open shelves, pull-out drawers and more.
Translucent glass sideboards are also acceptable here for placing wine glasses or cups.
Appliances
A modern interior presupposes modern functional technology with a beautiful exterior design. Basically, they prefer built-in models, and separate cabinets are allocated for small household appliances. If there is a niche, you can place a refrigerator in it. It is better to choose an inclined type hood. It looks very compact and is more efficient and thanks to the beveled body it has an elegant appearance.
Particular attention is paid to mixers, which must have an elegant shape, as well as in color and material, to be combined with furniture fittings.
It is desirable that all communications in the form of electrical wires, pipes, gas pipelines, ventilation, air ducts and other things are hidden in the kitchen. Furniture elements or removable boxes are suitable for disguising them.
Textile
For a practical and stylish decoration, the optimal solution for a window is the use of blinds, roller blinds, Roman blinds or pleated models.
Monochromatic shiny synthetic curtains or canvases with asymmetric plant and floral motifs will perfectly complement the furnishings.
The kitchen space can be decorated with potholders and towels, and for the dining table, choose a cotton tablecloth in combination with beautiful napkins.
Lighting
When selecting lighting, excessive requirements are imposed on it. The best solution for Art Nouveau is considered to be light bulbs with white neutral or yellow natural light. The ceiling or work area with a table top can be decorated with spotlights or LED lighting.
For the dining area, the installation of a central chandelier made of steel, ceramics or glass is suitable.Luminaires of oval, hemispherical or rhomboid shape are especially harmoniously fit into this style. Lamps with shades stylized as flowers will become an accent touch in the interior.
Decor
As a decoration, the walls are complemented with clocks with large numbers and small hands, products with a mirrored dial, or retro models. Also in the kitchen they hang photographs, paintings with abstract images or landscapes.
To decorate the environment, simple frosted glass vases are used to match the facade of the headset. White or multi-colored dishes are added to the design and fruit plates are arranged. Chairs with bright backs will become an interesting accent.

A hallmark of the Art Nouveau style is the combined kitchen-living room of a simplified form. According to the color scheme, a completely different range is appropriate for the interior, from classic white, beige and black to neutral lavender or exciting red. In the design of furniture and walls, the presence of extraordinary patterns and ornaments is possible. This design looks dynamic and doesn't feel overwhelmed.
For zoning a modern kitchen-living room, a multi-level ceiling is often used. To make the design look as modern as possible, a large number of gadgets are added to it in the form of a large plasma TV, home theater, laptop, coffee machine, multicooker and other equipment.
