Doors
Sometimes treasures that any decorator will appreciate are ruthlessly dumped in a landfill, despite their impressive appearance.
Antique home furnishings can be used in almost any style. For doors that have served their purpose, it is easy to find use in the bedroom, turning them into a headboard.
In addition to old canvases, louvered doors, a curly window frame without glass and even forged gates look interesting. If the door is light, it can be slightly renovated with paint or sanding and fixed horizontally.
Mirror
A mirror headboard for the bed will play, rather, a decorative role, since it will be inconvenient to use a reflective surface for its intended purpose.
The mirrored canvas will visually make the bedroom more spacious, add light and a feeling of lightness. This can be a large mirror in a frame, several decorative items or panels that make up a single composition.
Drapery
To independently make a picturesque headboard out of matter, you will need a light flowing fabric and hooks mounted into the wall. If there is no desire or opportunity to make holes, you can use fasteners that do not require drilling ("spider" or "craps").
The headboard will turn out to be very effective and will perfectly fit into the classic style, as well as fusion, scandi and boho.
Carpet or tapestry
Carpets never go out of style, but what is really appreciated today are vintage and self-woven products with unusual patterns. You can fix the carpet directly to a wall or a wooden batten. The second method will allow you to easily remove the cloth for cleaning.
Patterned rugs, tapestries, appliqués and patchwork pieces will replace the headboard and give your bedroom a vibrant, personal touch.
Wicker fabric
One of the most popular trends in recent years is the use of natural materials in home decoration. The color range of light brown, sandy and woody shades has a positive effect on well-being and mood.
To decorate your bedroom with eco-style elements, you can use woven tatami rugs instead of the headboard or a round jute rug.
Bamboo
An unusual backrest will turn out from bamboo trunks coated with varnish or paint. You should not adhere to strict symmetry when forming a composition: a slight mess will add naturalness to it. Bamboo is a rather active element of the interior, therefore it is recommended to use it in laconic interiors, so as not to overload the situation.
Instead of solid trunks, you can use their halves, as well as natural bamboo fiber wallpaper.
Shelf
What could be more practical and functional than a shelf located directly over your head? This is not only a popular design trick, but also one of the easiest ways to decorate the wall above the bed.
The shelf can act as a bedside table, storing useful little things like a phone, or serve as a stand for decor - paintings, candles, houseplants.
Garlands
An interesting accent that creates a festive mood, and in the dark - giving a feeling of romance. It is better to use cold bulbs as a neutral backlight, and warm bulbs for a more cozy atmosphere. Garlands look even more elegant, on the wires of which photographs are suspended with the help of clothespins.

Cushions
Decorative pillows mounted on the wall look cozy and useful for those who like to read before going to bed or sit in bed with a laptop. The best option is to use products with removable pillowcases so that they can be removed and washed at any time. The pillows are fixed on hooks or rails.
Natural wood
An enduring trend in modern fashion is environmental friendliness, which means wood textures and decor made from natural materials will always be relevant. Instead of a headboard, a shield decorated with wood cuts, new or barn boards, as well as a processed slab with uneven edges will do. The latter option is quite costly, but it instantly gives the atmosphere of nobility and originality.
Books
Fans of printed publications will appreciate such a non-trivial decor of the headboard. The most difficult thing in the implementation of this idea is the selection of books of the same format. To save on budget, we recommend using used editions.
A sheet of plywood is suitable as a base. Small nails can be used to fasten books, but it is important to leave 2-3 pages free so that you can glue them later and close the nail heads.
Pallet
Pallets are a consumable used for the transportation and storage of goods. But in modern interiors, they are firmly established as a fashionable decor and furniture base.
The headboard can be both the pallets themselves, fixed on a bed or wall, and boards connected to each other. Pallets must be pre-processed: washed, sanded and coated with a protective compound: oil, paint or stain.
Macrame
By placing a product using the macrame technique on a small cornice or a processed branch, you can easily add boho notes to the bedroom decor. If you can weave it with your own hands, then the headboard will become especially valuable and comfortable.
Macrame, whose art lies in knot weaving, is the oldest type of needlework, but today it is especially relevant in interior design.
Picture
Replacing the headboard can be an unusual painting of the wall behind the bed. You can use the gradient technique, stencils, resort to partial coloring or apply a simple geometric ornament. When the headboard gets bored, the wall can be simply repainted or pasted over with wallpaper.
Perforated board
Perforated boards are often used as a storage system, and if earlier they could be found in garages, today they are a fashionable detail in designer apartments. In the bedroom, it is recommended to use a board made of MDF or plywood: it can be painted in any suitable color, equipped with shelves, hooks and rails.
The advantage of a perforated board is its versatility. You can change not only the decor, but also its location.
To prevent small sawdust from falling into the bed, the edges must be sanded and varnished.
If you implement any of these non-standard ideas, the headboard will become the main decoration of the bedroom and give it originality and comfort.
