Decorate with pillows
The easiest and cheapest way to upgrade your sofa is complement it with fancy pillows... For a plain product, multi-colored pillowcases with a variety of textures, sizes and prints are suitable: fur, knitted, with patterns, round and rectangular. For a sofa with ornaments, it is more appropriate to use single-color pillows, which will muffle the activity of the upholstery without overloading it.
You can make your own pillowcases by tidying up your closet and using old clothes you don't wear.
Cover with a blanket
Even the most inexpensive sofa will look cozier and more attractive if you cover it tightly. blanketand throw a couple of pillows on top. For convenience, the product can be secured with threads or pins on the back and in the corners. It is important to choose the right fabric - sufficiently embossed and heavy so that it does not slip during use.
The universal option is a contrasting one-color fabric without a pattern or in tone to textiles rooms.
Add foam rubber
A sagging sofa has several disadvantages:
- unaesthetic, shabby look;
- inconvenience when using;
- reduction in the cost of the general appearance of the interior.
If you have removable covers, add extra hard foam (EL2240 or EL2842) to the main filling to make it comfortable to sit on the sofa, and the fabric on the cover is stretched. This simple and inexpensive retrofit will visually update your upholstered furniture.
If the upholstery is one-piece, you will have to "tinker" with it, carefully embroidering the fabric, adding filler and re-fastening the fabric with threads and a furniture stapler.
Paint
Surprisingly, upholstered furniture can be ennobled with paint: the main thing is to consult with a specialist in the store and choose the right composition. Latex paints are commercially available for upholsteryapplied with a brush and special aerosols. If you follow the instructions carefully, the coating will not crack and get dirty.
If the cover is removable, it can be dyed with textile paint, a washing machine, and a little adventurism.
Sew a new cover
If you want to implement an idea with your own hands and at minimal cost, you need skillful hands, several meters of upholstery fabric and a sewing machine. Soft tissues are easier to work with, but have more wear and tear.
Be sure to take shrinkage into account when calculating fabric consumption.... You can go an easier way by ordering a ready-made cover from trusted manufacturers.
Versatile covers made from stretchy synthetic fabric, which are easy to find on Internet services, rarely look attractive, so they are only suitable as a temporary option. Choose hardwearing and dense fabrics to make your sofa look more expensive and last longer.
Change components
Place the sofa on the legs or replace the old (usually chrome-plated) supports with new wooden ones. You can also paint the legs in a bright or more muted color, sew covers for individual pillows - for example, only on the seat - or add armrests to a concise product.
Some sofas have a "petticoat" and do not fit into the modern style - you can remove it, turning the structure into a lighter-looking model. Or vice versa - add decorative elements in the form of buttons, imitating a carriage tie on the back.
Completely refurbish
Such work will require not only enthusiasm, but also an investment of money and effort. To thoroughly update the sofa, you should disassemble it, sand the wooden parts or replace the damaged chipboard. The filler must be replaced, the moving mechanisms must be lubricated or new ones must be installed. The tree needs to be coated with a protective compound (oil, wax or paint).
To sew a new upholstery, we recommend removing the old one and, using it as a template, cut out new component parts. With the proper patience and accuracy, the result will definitely delight you.
There are many ways to transform a boring or spoiled sofa: use your imagination to create a completely new piece of furniture without much investment.
