Characteristic features of Provence
To recreate the Provencal interior you will need:
- Natural finishing materials in the form of wood, ceramics and metal, as well as natural linen and cotton.
- Antique furniture, lace curtains and vintage ceramics.
- An abundance of natural light that enters the room unhindered.
- Items with graceful outlines, curly and rounded edges.
- Handmade decor, wicker baskets and other wicker or rattan products.
- Prints with floral, bird or flower motifs.
- A palette of blue, olive, green, beige, lavender, pink and other neutral shades.
Choosing bathroom furniture
The main feature of French-style furniture is curved and rounded frames with scratches, cracks and abrasions. Often, furniture with the effect of artificial aging, painted in white, is selected for the bathroom.
For a Provencal-style bathroom, cabinets with swing doors and drawers, which are most often located under the sink, are suitable. The interior can be supplemented with wrought iron shelves, hanging shelves, a console, hooks or hangers made using decoupage technique.
The spacious bathroom is decorated with wicker armchairs in the French Provence style, and the mirrors are decorated with graceful figured frames. Wardrobes, dressers and shelving are distinguished by their vintage design, the presence of embossed edges, cross frames, nets or porcelain handles.
Plumbing options
When buying sanitary ware and bathroom faucets, you should choose items that fit perfectly into the French style:
- Bath. A cast iron or acrylic font with high curved legs with a bronze, brass or nickel finish is suitable. In a private house, a rounded bathtub can be installed in the center or on a podium, turning the bowl into the main decoration of the decor.
- Toilet. The design of the toilet and bidet is most often matched to the color of the rest of the plumbing. Also, in the interior of the bathroom, retro products with high tanks and a chain are appropriate.
- Mixers. All faucets in a Provencal-style bathroom should be in harmony with each other and make up one model range. Antique taps with large vents and curved spout accentuate the provincial theme.
- Sink. Washbasins with rounded corners will do. The base can be curly legs, a bookcase or a cabinet made of wood.
In order not to disturb the harmonious natural atmosphere of Provence, modern technical items (boiler, washing machine) are masked behind the facades of cabinets, covered with screens or hidden in a niche.
For a small bathroom in Khrushchev, Provence-style showers and corner bowls are suitable.
Color spectrum
Various pastel colors are used as the background design of the bathroom - cold blue and olive, warm beige and sand, neutral gray and pearl. Often, the bathroom is decorated in white colors, due to which the details of the furnishings look much more expressive.
The discreet palette in the bathroom creates a magical atmosphere, filling it with soft shades of sun-faded flowers and turquoise reflections of the sea waves. Lavender and soft green tones, symbolizing the flower fields in the south of France, help to relax and fill with tranquility.
Lighting and decor
The Provence style does not accept LEDs: a massive chandelier with an iron base, as well as wall sconces with fabric lampshades or glass shades, are suitable for the bathroom. A harmonious interior composition can be created using forged lamps, lamps or candelabra.
The Provence style bathroom design features accessories that enhance the aesthetics of the environment: colorful rugs, woven laundry baskets, linen curtains and pictures of nature. The interior is complemented by pots with plants, hanging planters with natural or dried flowers, forged hooks and towel holders.
The window is decorated with floral curtains, Roman or roller blinds, and wooden blinds. To disguise cabinets without doors, rustic textiles are used.
Wicker coasters and drawers, plaster or wooden mirror frames with antiquity effect, stucco decoration and small figurines will add coziness to a Provence-style bathroom.
Ceramic dispensers, soap dishes, porcelain vases with wildflowers, jugs and candles in beautiful candlesticks are placed on the shelves. A functional addition to the bathroom will be fluffy towels or bathrobes, hung on hooks, a heated towel rail or compactly folded on the shelves.
Finishing examples
For cladding the walls of the Provence style bathroom, choose a square tile with a matte surface, since this direction does not accept shiny glazed tiles. A hog tile or decorative plaster with roughness and small cracks, through which brick or masonry is slightly visible, is also appropriate.
You can decorate the ceiling with oversized beams, moldings, or apply picturesque designs with nautical themes, flower gardens and various landscapes.
Recreating the Provence style and choosing finishing materials for the bathroom, you must take into account its size. Wooden walls or panels with panels reduce the area, while plain light tiles, on the contrary, visually expand the space.
Tiles placed symmetrically on the wall can become bright accent spots. The floor is characterized by natural cladding in sand shades, tiles imitating wood or mosaics, with which you can lay out a rug with natural ornaments or floor panels.

In the design of the toilet, semi-antique plumbing is appropriate, for example, a toilet equipped with a hanging cistern, or a sink, complemented by faucets with valve taps. As an accent, they select a mirror in an openwork frame or tiles with a floral print, small bouquets or meadow grass.
The light color scheme of French country visually expands the area and therefore is perfect for the design of small toilets.
In a small room, you can install narrower or built-in plumbing fixtures, apply a monochromatic, like a burnt-out finish without large patterns: this will add additional lightness and airiness to the atmosphere.
Ideas for combined bathrooms
For a small bathroom, a hanging cabinet, a design for a sink or a shelf with shelves are suitable. A more spacious room can accommodate a dressing table, bench, chair, armchair or shelving unit. It is important that all furniture items are united with each other by the same type of design and decor, for example, carved elements or patina patina.
To decorate a combined bathroom in the style of French Provence, a variety of containers and jars for soap and cream, decorated with a floral pattern, are suitable. Decorating with wallpaper with roses, lavender or cornflowers is appropriate.
Bathroom design with shower
To recreate Provence more convincingly, a shower cabin without a pallet should be installed in a modern interior. The structure can be equipped with a decorated glass door, an original curtain or a flap with floral ornaments. In the shower cabin, mosaic cladding looks especially advantageous, giving the design a more expressive look.
The use of a shower is considered the best option for a cramped space. The cladding and colors of the Provence-style bathroom in a small apartment should contribute to a real increase in the area. For decoration, they often choose finishes in the form of plaster, natural masonry or tiles in neutral colors.
