Adjusting plastic windows with your own hands

Not everyone knows that window fittings have 3 modes:

1. Summer... Minimum sash pressure, slight blowing is possible. But the service life of the rubber seal is increased.
2. Winter... Maximum pressure. If the position persists all year round, the seal will quickly deteriorate.
3. Universal... The pressure is less than in the winter, but more than in the summer. Neutral mode does not require adjustment for the first years after installation.

A special adjusting screw is responsible for the tightness of the abutment, the appearance of which differs from different manufacturers. Most often, a dot or risk is applied to the eccentric, which shows how much the door touches the frame:

• in neutral position, the trunnion points up or down,
• in the summer - on the street,
• in the winter - inside the apartment.

There are also oval-shaped bolts: usually in winter they stand vertically, in summer - horizontally, in demi-season - diagonally.

Summer adjustment

In order to adjust the plastic windows on your own on the eve of summer, the first step is to open the sash and look at the eccentrics located at the junction of the shutters to the impost.

Next, select a tool suitable for adjusting the fittings:

• hex wrench;
• flat or Phillips screwdriver;
• pliers.

Most often you need a hexagon.

Let's start setting up:

1. with a suitable tool, turn all the pins with a line towards the street (or put the oval ones in a horizontal position);
2. close the plastic window;
3. done!

Winter adjustment

Strong adhesion of the window sash to the frame characterizes the winter mode. To achieve a tight hold, you need a suitable tool (screwdriver, wrench, pliers). Scroll the eccentrics counterclockwise for the left transom or clockwise for the right - the point should look inside the apartment. To adjust the oval trunnion, rotate it to the vertical post.

You can check how the flap pressure is adjusted using a sheet of paper:

1. Open the window.
2. Insert a piece of paper between the door and the impost.
3. Close.
4. Pull the sheet off.

If the paper is held tight and cannot be pulled out - the adjustment of the plastic window is done correctly. If the sheet can be pulled out of the closed frame, adjustment of other details of the fittings is required: we will talk about them in the following sections.

Important! The service life of the window in winter mode should be shorter than the summer one. It is best to install it only when it snows outside. And shoot when it starts to melt. If the draft is too strong in summer mode, during the change of seasons (spring, autumn), move the eccentrics to a neutral position.

How to adjust so that it doesn't blow?

It happens that a plastic window is exposed in winter mode, but it still shows through. How to fix the problem depends on the cause:

• Inappropriate mode... In the summer and neutral position of the eccentrics, the window can blow. How to transfer a pvc window to winter is described in the previous section.
• Deteriorated seal... The rubber band could be erased if the window was in the "Winter" mode for a long time or it was simply old. For better sealing, it is recommended to replace the seal around the entire perimeter of the sashes.

• Poor installation... It is quite difficult to fix this error made during installation with your own hands. In case of incorrect installation, it can blow from the hinges, the places of abutment to the slopes and the window sill, along the contour of the glass (under the glazing beads), the handle mechanism. To solve this problem, contact trusted specialists.
• Sash sag... In addition to eccentrics, the plastic window has other customizable fittings: upper and lower hinges, locks, switches, striking plates. Turning them helps to achieve a tighter closure.

Horizontally

Adjustment of the sash of the plastic window left-right and up-down is carried out using a hex key.

Advice! Since there are many hard-to-reach places in PVC windows, it is most convenient to work with a tool with a rounded head when adjusting.

To correct the position of the moving part relative to the frame by 1, 2 mm to the left or right, the first step is to adjust the lower canopy. To do this, insert the hexagon into the side groove and scroll:

• Clockwise to pull the movable part against the hinge.
• Counterclockwise to move the door away from the frame.

Turning the upper hinge allows you to adjust the position of the flaps up to 4 mm. To do this, open the window, insert the key into a suitable side hole from the inside.

• Clockwise rotation pulls the movable part of the window to the hinge, raises the opposite bottom corner.
• Counterclockwise rotation, on the contrary, repels, lowers the bottom.

Important! You need to turn the nodes minimally: if you overdo it, the corners when opening and closing the window will start to cling to the frame.

Vertically

Most often, vertical correction is required. The regulating unit is located in the lower hinge, in order to get to it you need to remove the protective cap: at the top end you will see a suitable hole for a hexagon.

The up and down stroke is about 2-2.5 mm in height on either side. To raise the door, turn it clockwise, lower it - counterclockwise.

What to do if it closes tight?

PVC doors and windows are a complex mechanism consisting of many elements. If all parts are not properly looked after, regular maintenance is ignored, problems can begin over time. The most common of these is the tight move. This is best seen when closing the window after airing mode: you simply cannot turn the knob all the way.

To prevent the window from jamming at the most inopportune moment - winter cold or summer heat, you should not postpone solving the problem: start adjusting immediately.

If the tight turning of the handle is not associated with extraneous sounds, it is enough to lubricate the fittings (hinges, handle mechanism). Use machine oil or special silicone PVC window grease as a lubricant.

Advice! Aerosol-type lubricants are most convenient, but standard packs with a long spout will do.

Before spraying oil on the moving parts of the fittings, wipe them with a clean cloth to remove any visible dirt. Dust particles trapped inside can cause unpleasant sounds and system breakdown.

Important! If the window is already making sounds when you turn the handle or open and close, contact the specialists: the accessories will need to be disassembled or cleaned, or completely replaced with a new one.

Fittings adjustment

Other problems that may arise during the operation of plastic windows are also solved by adjusting the fittings:

• The handle is loose... Adjustment is as simple as possible: move the decorative plate, tighten the fasteners with a key or screwdriver.
• The handle is stuck... If the handle does not turn in the open position of the window, simply press the lock located on the side end, put the handle in the desired position, release the lock. If the window is closed and will not open, try to firmly press the sash, especially in the upper opposite corner, and turn the handle in this position.
• Not fully or tightly opens in ventilation mode... Place a drop of grease on the "scissors" - the sash opening stop.
• The sash touches the frame when opening or closing... It is required to adjust the sash vertically, horizontally using bolts on the hinges - see detailed instructions in the section "How to adjust so that there is no muzzle?"
