Heating battery
When you enter a room, your gaze is fixed on an unsightly radiator? If this detail draws all the attention to itself, implement any of the ways to fix the problem:
- Cover the battery with a decorative shield... It can be made to order or by yourself by purchasing carved MDF gratings in a suitable style. An option for creative individuals is a dense fabric, well stretched on a wooden stretcher and fixed with a stapler (second photo).
The louvered screen will fit well into a modern interior, and the ornamented ventilation panel will fit into a classic one.
- Replace the radiator with a more attractive one - one that will not annoy you with its appearance. You can choose fewer sections or a more concise design.
- Disguise the battery with tulle: An object "muted" with a translucent fabric does not attract attention.
Is the battery really that bad? After all, if you paint it in the color of the walls or, on the contrary, highlight it with bright paint, the problem will disappear by itself, turning into a decoration of the living room.
Cluttered space
An obvious problem in most living rooms is the ill-conceived setting, when there is no place for things, and the decoration creates a tiring visual noise. Before making repairs or adding new items, divide it into functional areas: for example, "study and TV area" or "reading corner and reception area". Build on your needs.
When the living room is laid out, start putting things in order: sort things out in the closets, take old clothes and furniture to a landfill or recycling site. It sounds simple, but the work takes time, determination and effort: on the other hand, thanks to decluttering, you will lose excess weight and add coziness to the living room.
Old Soviet the wall can be replaced light laconic cabinets (so the space will not be overloaded) or disassemble and repaint in a pastel shade. If you have open storage system (shelves, racks), small things should be put in boxes or baskets.
Advice! If the living room is narrow or small, purchase furniture with thin legs to keep the floor optically empty. If there is a renovation ahead, do not choose wallpaper with a contrasting pattern, or at least do not paste over all the walls with them: the technique is outdated for a long time, besides, stamped prints "break" the situation without making it integral.
Wires in sight
The more appliances in the living room, the more difficult it is to create an attractive environment - they get underfoot and make the room untidy. To get rid of or reduce the amount of "cobweb", use any of the following ideas:
- Hide wires in the plinth and door trims... Suitable for plastic products.
- Take the wires away in the sliding cable duct.
- Use furniture: Run the wires along the back walls of the dresser or table, securing them with special holders.
- Buy or DIY a beautiful box with a lidto hide the chargers there.
Outdated sofa
If you have the opportunity, give up the old, long out of fashion sofa, because it is the center of the living room! Legacy models include:
- disproportionate designs with leather-like upholstery, popular in the 90s;
- products with synthetic upholstery in brown patterns and colors;
- easily recognizable models with light cushions and dark wood-like armrests;
- just sagging stretched sofas that cannot be cleaned of stains.
Today, monochromatic products made of practical fabrics, preferably on legs, are relevant. Modern interiors strive for functionality: Invest in a pull-out sofa that doubles as a bed, with storage boxes and padded armrests.
If the sofa is old and cannot be replaced, disguise the product with a plain color blanket and add decorative pillows with a variety of patterns and textures - the seating area will immediately change.
Little light
Is there not enough light in the living room? Act in three directions at once:
- We create. It's about artificial lighting when the only central chandelier is no longer enough. If replacing the wiring is not your option, get a floor lamp, placing it next to a sofa or armchair, a table lamp, or garlands. To compensate for the lack of sun, install LED bulbs with warm white light.
- We reflect. Mirrors reflect light best. The larger they are, the brighter the room. A mirror sheet (on the wall or in the form of a cabinet front) opposite the window is the most effective solution. They will allow you to reflect the light and white walls: If your wallpaper is in good condition, you can simply repaint it with a special compound. Glossy elements (coffee table top, cabinet doors) will also help.
- We do not interfere. Decorate the window so that light can enter freely: use roller blinds or thin curtains, do not obstruct the window sill.
Empty wall above the sofa
Do not leave the surface empty: the problem is that by resting your gaze on an empty wall, you visually stop within the boundaries of the room. Large paintings, photographs and posters help to visually deepen "inward", creating an artificial perspective.
You can also hang an open shelf above the sofa and add decor to it, or fix laconic wall cabinets under the ceiling if there is not enough storage space.
Any art objects will do, including those created by your own hands, as well as wall moldings, sconces and just accent trim: wallpaper, wood, clinker bricks.
Lack of comfort
Faded walls, gloom, a sense of discomfort - if this is about your living room, it's time to change its appearance. We have already talked about light, but it will not be superfluous to remind you that the more lighting scenarios there are in the room, the more comfortable it is to do everyday activities.
Color plays an important role in creating comfort: the warmer it is in the interior, the more pleasant it is to be in it. But there are exceptions: if you want to create a more intimate setting, use dark blue, deep emerald and even black tones.
Don't forget about textiles: curtains, pillows, carpet and blanket will make the living room more habitable. Books, collections of objects and paintings will give the interior character, and houseplants will revive it and add texture.
Use these ideas to solve the most popular problems and transform one of the main rooms in the house.
