Types and features of grids
Screens for plastic windows are different, but the main difference lies in their design and mounting methods.
On the contact tape
Velcro fasteners are essentially an improved version of double-sided tape: one part of the tape is sewn directly to the canvas, the other is glued (or nailed with a stapler, if we are talking about a wooden base) to the frame.
Installation of a mosquito net you can make yourself... Another advantage - for the winter or while washing the windows, you can remove and wash or put away for storage.
Among the disadvantages of fastening with Velcro is the possibility of peeling off, which creates a backlash for insects and reduces the protective capabilities of the structure.
Frame mosquito net
Frame fixtures are most often installed on modern plastic windows. They represent a frame made of plastic or aluminum profile with mesh fabric stretched over it.
Despite the fact that this type of protection gained popularity only with the spread of PVC windows, frame cobwebs can be installed on wooden and aluminum sashes.
There are several ways of attaching this mosquito net - plungers are considered the most reliable, Z-shaped hooks are simple. There are also hinges and corners, we will talk about all the options in the next section.
Rolled mosquito
Protective shutters by their design resemble the usual roller blinds, only they protect not from the sun, but from flying pests. Fastened outside the window; when pulled out, the edges fit snugly against the frame, thanks to special profiles along the edge.
In terms of ease of use, roll nets are the most comfortableThey don't have to be removed every fall and returned to their place every spring, storage space allocated, etc. When protection is not needed, the canvas is pushed into the "house" and remains in it until the moment of need.
Unfortunately, this medal has a downside: if the canvas is accidentally damaged, you will have to change the entire expensive roller shutter.
Pleated mesh
Something in between the design of a roller blind and a roller shutter. The mesh is assembled "like an accordion", allowing, if necessary, to free the window opening. When the window needs to be closed again, it is enough to pull it out using a special handle.
Mosquito pleated nets surpass other types in strength, they are more convenient to use, but they cost several times more expensive than conventional ones.
All of these options can be ordered in any size, under doors and windows, with protection not only from insects, but also from the sun and pollen.
Installation on a window by type of fastening
Installing a mosquito net on a plastic window is a relatively simple process. You can do the installation yourself, the main thing is to know the nuances of working with each mount.
Check out the article about window selection.
On plungers
For installing a plunger-type mosquito net will need:
- The insert itself with plungers.
- Mating inserts.
- Drill.
- Brush seal.
Usually, when ordering meshes on plungers, companies independently install pistons into the through holes of the profile. You are left with:
- Transfer the places of future fastenings to the window frame.
- Drill holes of the required diameter (measure the mating insert).
- Insert the plunger inserts into the holes.
- Stick the seal on the frame.
- Replace the mosquito net.
Advice! During drilling, there is a high risk of damage to the frame, so if you are not confident in your abilities, entrust the installation to specialists.
Using Z-mounts
The main advantage of this method of attaching a mosquito net is that there is no need to drill the window frame. The meshes with z-shaped metal fasteners are supplied pre-assembled; all that remains is to insert them into the skylights.
- Turn the structure with the high brackets up.
- Holding the handles, pull the mosquito out of the window, hook the upper mounts over the edge of the frame, lift it all the way.
- Pull the bottom towards you, hook the bottom brackets.
- Lower it.
Remove the cleaning insert or winter storage should be in the reverse order - lift, remove the lower ones, move aside, remove the upper ones.
On the hinge
Hinged mosquito nets are similar in design to ordinary doors: there are hinges, one part of which is installed on the frame, the other on the sash, handle and latch.
What you need:
- The canvas on the profile.
- Fittings (2 hinges, handle, latch with striker).
- Self-tapping screws 20-25 mm (14 pcs).
- Screwdriver, screwdriver.
- Roulette and pencil.
First of all, the hinges, handle and latch are marked and screwed to the profile. Further, the marking of the hinges and the strike plate of the lock is made on the frame, after which they are already screwed. Insert the mosquito flap into the hinges, pull it by the handle until it clicks.

Using special corners
This method is considered one of the simplest and most versatile, and is used everywhere. To implement it you will need:
- Mosquito net on the frame.
- Brackets (2 upper, 2 lower).
- Self-tapping screws.
- Screwdriver or screwdriver.
Advice! Before installing the mosquito net, you need to make sure that it is made in accordance with the measurement, fits the desired opening in height and width.
Getting started with the installation:
- From the outside, along the lower bar, we make markings for the two lower mounts. The length of the "tail" of the lower ones is less.
- We fasten the lower brackets, slightly stepping back from the edges.
- We drill the upper fasteners to the upper crossbar of the window. Or to the side at the top.
- We install a mosquito net: we bring it out, insert it into the upper grooves, raise it all the way, insert it into the lower ones, lower it all the way. Done!
How to make the fixation more reliable so that the mosquito net cannot fly away from strong winds, see the video:
On sticky tape
Installation features depend on the type.
One size fits all:
- The rigid half of the Velcro tape is glued to the frame from the inside with double-sided tape.
- The mesh is applied to the tape, aligning one corner and two sides.
- Pressed around the perimeter.
- The excess is cut off.
The custom-made mesh is made according to the specified dimensions, it already has a Velcro sewn on the edge, which is many times more aesthetically pleasing than the previous version:
- Wash my frame, wipe it dry, degrease it.
- Remove the protective film from the sticky part of the tape, glue it to the frame.
- We cling to the mosquito net.
The mosquito net is a useful accessory for any apartment or house. Its installation does not cause difficulties, and the benefits are obvious.
