What types of gazebos are there?
The design of the gazebo for a summer residence is primarily distinguished by its design. Popular options:
Open gazebo
This unusual gazebo has a second name: pergola... In fact, it consists of several pillars and a roof lying on top of the support piles. The pergola has a mesh roof - it lets in light, but absolutely does not protect from rain. The roof of an open gazebo can also be covered, although due to the absolute absence of walls, reliable protection from rain should not be expected.
The main decoration of this type of building — climbing plants... Plant live, fast-growing girlish grapes, ivy or hops and in a couple of summer months they will completely surround your gazebo. By the way, with the help of plants, you can also make walls: install a net or tie threads from the ground to the roof, and soon the vines will create an almost impenetrable covering.
Semi-open design
A more protected classic building with a roof and sides. "Walls" reach a meter in height, the open part is covered with curtains or "glazing" is made using plastic partitions. There is an open passage in front, the back wall in some cases is made solid. The roof is deaf, sometimes it is supplied with a chimney.
Such gazebos for summer cottages are the most popular, but they, like the first type, are not 100% weatherproof.
Closed gazebo
Outwardly, this is already a full-fledged house, protected from rain, wind and even snow, thanks to the presence of a roof, windows, doors.
Types of gazebos in this category:
- Summer kitchen. A complete room equipped with a working and dining area. Usually a stove is installed nearby or barbecue areaso that you can cook in one place.
- Grill house. It is executed in the form of a circle or hexagon with a hearth in the center and a chimney above it. Without getting up from the table, you can calmly fry a barbecue, boil tea or make pilaf: the design often includes special rings for cauldrons or pots.
- Summer version of a closed gazebo: with panoramic sliding windows. In fact, double-glazed windows are walls that can be easily opened on a fine day. And when it is raining or windy outside, the windows move and the space becomes closed.
Important! There must be a beautiful landscape around the all-glass gazebo, otherwise it will be uncomfortable to be inside.
All gazebos for summer cottages differ not only in design. The forms of arbors are:
- Rectangular, square... The most ergonomic, it is conveniently integrated into the landscape of the courtyard of the correct form. It is easy to place a table and other necessary furniture inside.
- Round form. The most aesthetic possible option, often styled in an oriental, tropical or gothic style. Usually compact in size, a table is placed in the center, built-in benches on the sides.
- Hexagon... Almost the same as a circle, but it is more convenient to make a wooden gazebo, for example, not rounded, but angular. It is found in the form of open pergolas, half-open gazebos for summer cottages and closed grill houses.
What materials can you make?
Traditionally, summer cottages are made of wood, metal, stone or brick, polycarbonate. Let's analyze the pros and cons of each material.
Wood
A wooden gazebo is a classic of the genre, because wood is an affordable and easy-to-process material.
Other advantages:
-

- low weight in comparison with any other options;
- low cost;
- versatility - from wood they embody any ideas in various colors and styles - from rustic to modern.
Unfortunately, there are also disadvantages:
- additional treatment is required from fungus, pests, fire;
- the building needs regular maintenance;
- less durable than stone or metal.
The most suitable species are conifers: pine, larch, fir. Pine, by the way, is the record holder in all respects: it is very cheap, but at the same time it is highly resistant to moisture.
Choose materials at will: rounded or ordinary planed timber, boards, decorative slats, carved elements.
Metal
Since metal structures are mostly forged, graceful. They look incredibly beautiful. And in the hands of professionals, iron is even more flexible than wood.
Advantages of a metal summer cottage:
- strength, durability - will last for more than a dozen years;
- a large selection of shapes, sizes, decorations.
Disadvantages:
- installation requires a foundation;
- complex processing, professional help is needed;
- high heat capacity: iron heats up in the sun and you can burn yourself;
- expensive anti-corrosion treatment is required.
Although usually forged gazebos for summer cottages, there are more budget options: from shaped pipes, sheets and other elements. The roof is made separately from special materials.
Important! Lightweight structures are placed directly on the ground; they do not require foundation pouring.
Stone, brick
Looking for an idea for a gazebo "forever"? Build it from bricks, foam blocks or stones. All materials are used for the construction of houses, so you can be sure of their thermal insulation properties and calmly build a grill house. Alternatively, construct a semi-open stone structure in addition to the main structures on the site.
Brick, nevertheless, are built more often, so consider the pros and cons of this material. Advantages:
- strength, durability - the service life of correct masonry is almost unlimited;
- resistance to temperature and humidity extremes, corrosion, insects;
- fire resistance - suitable for placing the barbecue inside;
- ease of installation; wide design possibilities.
Advice! The more durable one is still red solid, not white brick.
disadvantages:
- the need to fill the foundation;
- relatively high cost;
- impossibility to change location at any time.
Polycarbonate
This relatively new material fell in love with many summer residents at the expense of their pluses:
- low cost;
- flexible, opens up great opportunities in arrangement;
- easy to install;
- resistant to mold, mildew;
- transparent - the sun's rays will be able to freely penetrate into the gazebo, no additional lighting is required during daylight hours.
Of cons allocate:
- intolerance to heavy loads, for example, cracks can go from a thick layer of snow;
- change in size with temperature changes.
Greenhouses and sheds are made of polycarbonate, but it is also suitable for an open gazebo.
Advice! Mount the sheets on a metal frame, not a wooden frame, so that the summer cottage lasts as long as possible.
Where is it better to place?
One of the most important questions when building a gazebo for a summer residence is where to install it? Some of the nuances are dictated by the materials themselves used in the manufacture:
- wooden structures should not be placed in too swampy areas and near open fire;
- it is better to hide metal in the shade to avoid overheating of the frame;
- polycarbonate also does not like the sun, choose a bright place without direct rays.
What else to consider when choosing a place at a summer cottage:
- Construction requirements. It is important to maintain these indicators, especially if the building is legalized: at least 1 m from the neighbors (with a barbecue - at least 5 m), 5 m from the sewer and water supply system.
- Inappropriate neighborhood. It is unlikely that you will be pleased to smell from your own or a neighbor's toilet, barn or other objects during dinner.
- Summing up communications. If electricity and water are planned in the summerhouse, we advise you to evaluate in advance the possibility and simplicity of bringing them to the right place: can you lay it underground or will you have to draw electricity by air?
- Shine. Hiding in the shade on a hot day is nice, but in a too deaf and damp place it will be uncomfortable. Choose the most neutral option, where it will be warm and not stuffy at the same time.
Advice! In families with children, a gazebo and a playground are installed side by side so that adults can watch the kids.
Do not forget about the aesthetic component: the gazebo for the summer residence is still a space for relaxation, so the view from it should be as beautiful as possible. It's okay if the panorama of the sea or mountains does not open from your summer cottage.
Refine your garden so that you can admire the greenery: break multi-tiered flower beds, plant beautiful bushes orperennials, let the climbing plants, lay the lawn. If you wish, you can set up an artificial decorative reservoir nearby - a small pond with figures of ducks and beautiful lilies.
How to arrange inside?
The main components of the gazebo are seating and a dining table. In general, in a small house this will be more than enough. If there is enough space, you can add less important details:
- Cooking table. Cutting a salad, stringing a kebab, placing a samovar - the working area will make cooking more comfortable.
- Storage space. Open shelves, drawers under the bench, real kitchen cabinets - it is convenient to put the utensils that you use most often in them. Skewers, grates, cutting boards, plates.
- Grill. They often do it inside: for example, in a grill house, the barbecue is located in the center, a table is made around it, a bench is in the third circle. In a square or rectangular gazebo, you can organize a separate cooking area - with a barbecue, a work area, storage boxes.
Important! If you plan to start a fire or cook on coals inside the structure, do not forget about the chimney. Without it, even in a half-open structure, there will always be smoke.
- Heating. A fireplace or a stove stove will help out on a cold winter evening, when you decide to gather friends in your suburban closed gazebo. With its help, you can quickly heat even a large area.
How can you decorate?
Returning to aesthetics again, let us remember that it should be beautiful not only outside, but also inside. The most popular decor was, is and will be textiles. Fabric is an inexpensive, effective way to make any room feel more comfortable. Textiles are used in the form:
- Cushions... It's hard to sit on a hard bench for a long time, so soft, comfortable pillows come to the rescue. They are used as a seat, back pad. In order not to worry about the service life and not to bring them home every time after gatherings, sew pillowcases from waterproof outdoor fabric.The material does not fade in the sun, does not get wet, it is perfectly cleaned - the pillows can stay outside all summer and nothing will happen to them.
- Curtain... Decorative tulle with drapery will turn an ordinary building into an original gazebo. But a more practical option is thick tarpaulin or street fabric curtains on each side, which will help regulate the amount of light, protect from wind and even rain.
- Tablecloth... Many people underestimate the decoration of the table with fabric, but in vain: it is she who sets the mood and adds comfort. It is advisable to use still not reliable non-marking PVC, but traditional fabric models - just choose materials with easy cleaning.
In addition to fabric decorations, flowers are used in pots or vases. The most simple and laconic decor, which cannot be found in abundance.
Hanging balls, decorative garlands also set the right mood and help to relax.
Do not forget about kitchen utensils: a beautiful dish, a teapot or a samovar serve as a decorative function by themselves. The same applies to bunches of onions, garlic, chili peppers, and bunches of dried herbs suspended from the ceiling.
The last important element: light. A beautiful chandelier, sconce or floor lamp will complete the picture. To set a romantic mood, hang garlands or light candles.
Original ideas
Fans of unusual solutions first of all should pay attention to the form: why not change it? Original gazebos, reminiscent of oriental pagodas, dugouts, chalets, chicken-legged huts, will become the focus of landscape design.
Another option is unusual modern material. For example, glass. The all-glass framed garden gazebo looks surreal yet very stylish.
Another variation on interesting content: recycling. Today, buildings are erected from plastic or glass bottles: why not save money in such an unusual way?
An option for lovers of shabby chic style in the interior is a fabric tent on a wooden canopy. Pillows and bedspreads are thrown directly on the floor, and a small (up to 35 cm high) table is placed in the center.
Important! To keep everything inside intact, make the tent coverable with waterproof fabric.
