Pros and cons
Benefits:
- A light weight... Even large models rarely reach 10 kg, so moving the chair from place to place is not difficult.
- No sharp corners... This fact makes the bean bag an ideal choice for a nursery: the child will not be able to injure himself while playing. By the way, due to the absence of a rigid frame and legs, the floor will not be scratched when the chair is moved.
- Variety of choices... Armchairs-bags come in completely different shapes, colors and sizes: everyone will find a suitable option for themselves.
- Versatility... A beanbag chair in the interior of all rooms of apartments and houses looks appropriate. In addition, it suits all modern styles.
- Convenience... The frameless chair was created for relaxation: thanks to the smooth shapes and uniform distribution of the filler, the body on it really relaxes.
- Multifunctionality... In addition to relaxation, it is convenient to work on the bag with a laptop, watch movies, play games and much more.
- Practicality... Most models have 2 covers: an inner one that holds the filler inside and an outer cover that can be removed. Not everything is suitable for washing or replacing with a new one - of a different color or from a different material.
Disadvantages:
- Top-up required... Over time, the filler crumples and the chair becomes less comfortable. To return it to its previous shape, the filler will have to be added.
- Not suitable for everyone... If young healthy people and children like to relax on a bean bag, then it will be quite difficult for people with sore joints and spine, as well as the elderly, to get out of the bean bag chair.
- Gets dirty quickly... Due to the fact that the frameless chair in the interior stands on the floor with its entire mass, the outer cover gets dirty more often than that of frame furniture. The problem is solved by a removable cover that can be easily removed for washing and put back on.
What are the shapes and sizes?
Frameless furniture can look different. The pear is considered a classic form - a model with a back narrowed upwards. The comfortable pear chair can be used in 3 positions:
- Crumple the tip of the backrest and sit on top, forming a high seat.
- Sit in the center, leaning on the back.
- Turn over and put the beanbag chair, lie with your head on the seat, with your feet on the back.
In addition to the standard pear, today you can find a lot other forms:
- the ball is chosen for children's rooms;
- a drop is the best choice for a cozy seating area;
- pillow - suitable for lying down;
- washer - small, replaces the pouf;
- pyramid - looks original, no less convenient than a pear.
For added comfort, some manufacturers incorporate padded armrests into the design to provide elbow support, for example when working with a laptop.
Dimensions (edit)
Compact beanbag chairs are used in small rooms: they are comfortable to sit on for children and people up to 160 cm tall.For people 160-180 cm, whose height is considered standard, choose medium-sized models: about 85 * 120 cm is optimal.If your height is more than 180 cm or you want a chair that completely envelops you while sitting, take a closer look at the large bags.
Each manufacturer has its own range of sizes, check which one is right for you with sales consultants.
Filler selection recommendations
Previously, the only option for frameless chairs was expanded polystyrene balls: they are light, inexpensive, and there are granules of different sizes. But bean bag chairs filled with expanded polystyrene have several drawbacks:
- Rustle loudly. In fact, expanded polystyrene is foam granules. Therefore, when the balls rub against the fabric and against each other, they make a loud, not always pleasant sound.
- Sit hard. At first, there is still air between the balls and this is not felt, but after 2-6 months the granules are crumpled and the chair becomes stiffer.
- Dangerous for children. If the manufacturer has not protected the filler from rashes, the child may open the zipper and swallow the granules.
A more modern option is a mixture of holofiber and expanded polystyrene balls. This mixture provides a soft fit and seated comfort, it is more elastic and less noisy.
An important nuance for both types of filler is the choice of the size of the granules. There is only one rule: the smaller they are, the longer the chair will last without shrinkage and the later the filling will be required.
- Armchairs-bags of the premium segment are filled with miniature (up to 1 mm) granules of expanded polystyrene. Such frameless furniture is denser, but its service life is practically unlimited.
- Standard practical models are filled with 1-3 mm balls. Shrinkage will be minimal; additional filling will be required at least in a year.
- In cheap products, polystyrene foam is usually used, with a size of 4 mm and more. The granules will crumple after 1-2 months of constant use.
In order not to be mistaken with your choice, use the price rule: a high-quality bean bag chair cannot cost less than 3500-4000 rubles.
Which upholstery should I choose?
Upholstery fabric is a matter of taste. The textured mat looks minimalistic, the fleecy velor is cozy, the leather is stylish.
Advice! If the beanbag chair is going to be used at home, avoid “rustling” fabrics like Oxford - they are uncomfortable to sit on.
How does it look in the interior and in the country?
The bean bag should be in place and support the overall design of the room.
