Tips for a tiny bedroom to increase space
The most reliable way to build up square meters is redevelopment. The space will become physically larger, you will be able to place a work or dressing table in addition to the bed. You can combine a small bedroom with a balcony or demolish the wall between it and the adjacent room by moving the partition further away.
This solution requires financial and physical investments, the repair will turn out to be major: but instead of 6 square meters, you can get hold of 8-10.
If there is no balcony in the bedroom, and you are not going to demolish the walls, try visual ways to increase the area 6 sq m:
- Mirrors... The simplest, often used technique: the room, reflected in the mirrors, looks 1.5-2 times more spacious. You can place them above the sleeping place or on its sides so that when you enter the room you can immediately see the reflection.
- White color... Not just light, namely snow-white... Use in decoration, furniture: the greater the percentage of surfaces will be in this shade, the freer the interior of a small bedroom will look.
- 3D effect. Wallpaper with panoramic views and 3D drawings only at first glance seem to be a frivolous decision, in fact they create an excellent illusion. Thanks to her, people entering the bedroom will not be able to estimate the real size.
What is the best layout?
The design of a small bedroom of 6 sq m begins with the arrangement of furniture. In a small area, you will not particularly roam, with a standard layout, except bed from bedside tables nothing else will fit in the room. But if you turn on your imagination, there will be other solutions.
Replacing the curbstones on the columns you get an effective solution to the storage problem If there is not enough space in the pencil cases, hang wall cabinets between them. The only problem such functional furnishings - there is nowhere to put a book or phone before bed.
But the problem is solved simply: make a small shelf on the wall above the headboard.
Curbstones are still needed? Then we play with the sizes: the bed can be taken not 2 * 2 (it takes as much as 4 squares!), But replaced with a more compact model - 1.4-1.6 meters wide (2.8-3.2 m2, respectively). For short people, models with a length of 180-190 cm are suitable, instead of 200-210. There are also smaller cabinets: not 50 * 40 cm, but 30 * 30. With this approach, there will be room for a narrow wardrobe or a couple of dressers.
AND last clue: The bed does not have to be centered! Move it to the corner: you only need 1 bedside table, there will be space for a dressing table or cabinet.
Important! Thinking over the zones, using physical zoning techniques is not worth it: most likely only one will fit in 6 square meters - a bedroom. If you still need to separate some part, use color or light.
What color should I use?
The color scheme in the design of the small 6 m2 bedroom plays an important role.We have already mentioned that it is better to make white the main one: it literally erases the boundaries, changes the perception of space. But if white rooms evoke unpleasant associations, use analogs:
- Beige... Warm light color will bring coziness to the bedroom with north windows... It's great for a classic, modern look. The use of different shades adds depth: light for the main finish, dark, rich for accents.
- Grey... The sun-drenched southern or southeastern bedrooms want to lower the temperature a little: they use a cold one for this, calm gray... Suitable for walls, floors and ceilings (although the latter is best done white). It is combined with black, which is usually distinguished by small accents, accessories.
Don't forget about the color palette... When choosing a pastel color, be guided by the direction of the windows: warm (light yellow, peach) for the north side, cold (blue, light green) for the south. The pastel is diluted with white, gray or beige to add lightness to the design.
What kind of furniture to choose?
It is no secret that a lot of furniture cannot be placed on 6 square meters. Therefore, those products that fit should be as functional as possible: for example, choose not an ordinary bed, but with drawers under the mattress - they store bedding, clothes. And the extended drawer at night can replace the curbstone.
The linen drawer is most often also built into the bed: for this it is equipped with a lifting mechanism. Sometimes the linen drawer is taken out at the head of the bed - a convenient, compact way.
Basic requirements for furniture in a small bedroom:
- Color... Dark shades are prohibited - products look bulky. Light wood or classic white look lighter.
- Compactness... There are products on sale that are reduced in width or depth - in a limited area it is better to use them.
- Visual increase in space... To do this, choose models with glossy or mirrored facades.
What to consider in decor and lighting?
The presence of decorative elements in the setting is a controversial issue. On the one hand, there is not enough space, and on the other, without them, the bedroom will look empty, uninhabited. To avoid this use decor to a minimum and, preferably, that it is useful.
Let's start with textiles: a mandatory attribute of any bedroom - curtains... Blackouts made of opaque material ensure complete darkness even during the day, allowing you to sleep longer on weekends.
Now bed decoration: pillows, blankets... A few small dooms can completely change the way a room is perceived. The plus is that decorative pillowcases can be changed at least every season.
Pictures are hung on the walls (observe proportionality: instead of 1 huge 2-4 small ones), carpets (yes, they are in fashion again!), Decorative wreaths (popular not only on New Year's Eve).
Avoid volumetric shapes, such as deer antlers - they create unnecessary shadows, look cumbersome.
The last important nuance is lighting... Think in advance where exactly the light sources will be located: the presence of one ceiling chandeliers in the bedroom inconvenient, it must be supplemented with lamps on the bedside tables. And if you managed to allocate space for a cabinet or a table, they should also have their sources near them.
Photos of real interiors
Although the space of 6 square meters is small, it is more difficult to correctly arrange it than the average rooms of 10-12 square meters. Firstly, the more likely to make a mistake - it will just be more noticeable. Secondly, most likely you will have to order furniture according to an individual project, but it is not cheap. Thirdly, you need to take into account many nuances so as not to make the room visually smaller, turning it into a dark closet.
To summarize: the main interior items will be a bed, sideboards, the main color will be white, and techniques like mirrors, 3D images also work great.
