Pros and cons of cabins
Shower cabins have both advantages and disadvantages:
pros | Minuses |
---|---|
In small bathrooms (for example, in Khrushchevs), a cabin is an excellent option, which, due to its dimensions, will help to fit everything you need in a small space. | In a booth, unlike a bath, you cannot lie down and relax after a hard day. |
In wooden houses, old floors may not withstand a full bath, so a shower is the only way out in such a situation. | If small children live in the house, they need a bath. Daily water treatments develop babies and improve their health.

The shower cubicle looks laconic and modern. Perfect for a minimalist bathroom. | |
The cab helps to save water and sometimes time. | A shower stall is more difficult to care for: you need to wash not only the pallet, but also glass partitions or doors. |
A shower is much more appropriate in a home with elderly people. It is easier to get in there than to the bathroom, plus there is an opportunity to put a bench. | It is impossible to soak laundry or make water supplies in the booth. |
Shower types
The choice of shower room depends on the size and characteristics of the bathroom, as well as on the financial capabilities of the owner.
Shower cabin
Also called a closed box. Consists of a pallet, walls and roof. The pallet is made of either plastic or acrylic, and the doors are made of clear or frosted glass. Inside the cabin can be equipped with various additions: hydromassage, radio, lighting, Turkish bath function. The fixed shower is easy to install - only a drain hole is required.
Shower corner
It is a compact and practical design that fits in any room. The corner uses two walls, which makes it a fairly economical option. The model does not have an upper plane, and in apartments on the ground floor or in a private house there is often a pallet. Products can be square, semicircular or multifaceted: the choice depends on the size and possibilities of the bathroom.
Combined bathroom and shower
This design combines the functions of a shower and a bath: it can be either a bowl equipped with a watering can, or a full-fledged shower box with a high tray and additional equipment. Suitable only for spacious rooms, as it takes up a lot of space. There are also showers built into niches, which are closed with hinged or sliding doors.
Homemade tile shower room with glass doors
Such a product looks laconic, stylish, and most importantly, gives a rich scope for imagination. A shower cabin can be made independently with a concrete or brick base. Plumbing communications are hidden under a concrete layer, and the foundation and the floor are made with a slope so that water can drain. The design without a threshold with a drain ladder looks even more minimalistic, which is made according to the same scheme, but without a threshold.
To many, porcelain stoneware seems cold, but the tile heats up quickly and maintains the temperature, so using such a shower is pleasant and comfortable.
Space layout
The size of the bathroom is the main factor that determines the layout. The cubicle will fit into a narrow bathroom as well as possible, but in a large bathroom it will look great. The design with or without a low base looks airy, and the glass doors seem to dissolve the shower into space.
The layout of the small room allows the cabin to be positioned in a corner to save as much floor space as possible: this frees up space for the washing machine, sink and laundry basket.
How to arrange a room?
You should think over the design of the bathroom at the stage of drawing up the project. Due to the high humidity in the room, it is necessary to provide the room with good ventilation.
It is also recommended to immediately decide on the style - whether it will be a classic interior in light colors with elegant furniture and semi-antique plumbing or, for example, a functional modern setting with a bias towards a loft. Showers will fit into any interior.
Contrasting vases, carpets and curtains can be used as additional decor. A bathroom with a window can be decorated with houseplants. But it is better not to leave hygiene products in plain sight, otherwise the room will seem cluttered.
The light intensity depends on the size of the room. Lamps must be placed on the ceiling, in the shower area, and also near the mirror.
Finishing options
As a rule, paint, wall panels or ceramic tiles are used to decorate a bathroom with a shower. Ceramics of various shapes are often combined with each other: square, rectangular, "hog" and "honeycomb".
A shower room can act as an accent, provide zoning of space, or, conversely, not stand out against the general background. This is especially true in a small room, for example, in a white bathroom, when the structure fits into the environment and does not attract attention. For more spacious rooms and eccentric ideas, cabins of any shade are suitable.
In addition to tiles, ceramic or mirror mosaics are used for wall cladding. It is also environmentally friendly and resistant to dirt, and the variety of shades allows you to create any pattern or geometric pattern and make your bathroom unique.
Small bathroom design
Choosing a shower cabin for a small room, it is recommended to stay on models that occupy only one corner of the room. Wall or corner placement saves space. Unlike bulky cabins with a high pallet and many functions, laconic corner products or self-made cabins with a gangway will take up a minimum of space.
To visually expand the room, it is worth using light shades and reflective surfaces: mirrors, furniture with glossy facades, glazed tiles. Transparent (not matte!) Shower doors will also help create the impression of free space.

Sometimes, in order to expand the room, a partition is demolished between the bathroom and toilet. Together with a shower stall, there is enough space for a washing machine.
To make a bathroom with a shower stall look more spacious and neat, designers advise using a hanging cabinet under the sink and a wall-mounted toilet.

One of the trends in recent years is that the bathroom should be perceived as a room. Showers, especially prefabricated ones, help to create a stylish and functional interior.
