A rock
Synonymous with reliability and durability. Such slopes will stand the entire service life of the door and even more. Artificial stone is cheaper and easier to install, natural stone is more beautiful and unusual. A brick or its imitation is also suitable as a stone.
Advantages of stone door slopes:
- Presentable appearance.
- Durability.
- Resistance to mechanical stress.
- Saving time and effort on surface preparation (careful alignment is not necessary).
- Practical (easy to clean and clean).
Disadvantages of slope stone:
- Relative high cost (in comparison, for example, with plastic or clapboard).
- Limited use (does not fit into all styles).
Instructions for framing door frame slopes with stone or decorative bricks:
- Clean the surface, apply a penetrating primer.
- Mark the guides for the first row using a level. Laying starts from the bottom.
- Apply tile adhesive with a notched trowel.
- Lay the first row of artificial or natural stone by pressing slightly on the tiles.
- Lay subsequent rows, inserting spacers between them if necessary.
- After complete drying, make the jointing.
Wood
The second most popular natural way to decorate slopes from the inside after stone is wood. As a starting material, wooden siding, lining, furniture board, slats, etc. are used.
Advantages of natural wood slopes:
- Environmental friendliness... The tree is absolutely safe, it will not spoil the microclimate in the apartment.
- Ease of processing... For cutting, simple tools are enough - a hand saw or an inexpensive jigsaw.
- Aesthetic appearance... Even the cheapest natural pine usually looks better than imitation.
Of the shortcomings, a complex preparation is distinguished: the wood must be sanded, covered with a protective impregnation, varnish or paint. This is time consuming and expensive.
To make the slopes of the front door from the lining, follow the instructions:
- Clean the surface of the old coating.
- Along the perimeter, fix the guides from the timber to the wall with dowels, align them in the plane.
- Saw the decorative trims to the desired size.
- Gradually attach them to the bars with self-tapping screws.
- Cover the inner corners and outer edges with special corners.

PVC panels
Plastic is the easiest way to make slopes on the front door with your own hands. They are inexpensive, differ in a huge selection of colors, can be attached to a sealant or frame, while both methods do not require perfectly aligned walls - the main thing is to close up the main large holes.
Unfortunately, this finishing material also has disadvantages:
- Immunity to mechanical damage... The panel is easy to break through and impossible to restore - you just have to change it.
- Cheap appearance... Can spoil the overall impression of the interior.
- Unnaturalness... Poor quality PVC can release dangerous formaldehydes.
Anyone can handle the finishing of slopes with PVC:
- Fix on the concrete base the slats, perpendicular to the wall, about 2 cm thick, 4-5 wide. You will need a drill or puncher, dowels.
- Measure the top panels (jumpers) with a tape measure.
- Cut the panels to the desired size.
- Install in the right place, fix with a stapler to the bars.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for the sides.
- Decorate the joints from the inside and outside with special corners.
MDF panels
Medium Density Fiberboard is suitable not only for making furniture, but also as a finishing material. Slopes made of MDF are not much different from wooden ones, but making them easier and faster.
Panels and slabs are used on the slopes in doorways. Material advantages:
- Low price... It is more expensive than plastic, but it is still considered a budget option.
- Ease of installation... Unlike wood, MDF does not require preparation before and processing after installation - the panels are already ready for use.
- A large assortment... Among the designs, wood imitation is in the lead, but there are also monochromatic matte or glossy slabs.
- Ease of care... The surface does not absorb dirt and is easy to clean.
Minuses:
- Relatively low strength... Damaged by accidental impact.
- Low water and fire resistance.
There are several ways to make slopes on the front door from fiberboard:
- Installation on suitable glue or foam.
- Installation on a frame made of bars or metal profiles.
- Double fastening on foam and strips (used for deep doorways).
One of the options for step-by-step finishing of door slopes, see the video:
Decorative plaster
This option for ennobling a doorway is usually used in the event that if at least one wall with a door is covered with plaster - so the slopes will be just a continuation of the wall.
The advantages of plastering:
- Environmental friendliness... The composition of the mixtures is usually completely natural.
- Diversity colors, textures.
- Durability.
- Unpretentiousness in care.
- High durability to mechanical damage.
There are practically no downsides to this material., except that in order to achieve a high-quality result, you need to adapt to the application process.
Stages of finishing the slopes of the doorway:
- Level the wall with ordinary plaster. For materials that are applied in a thin layer, a base coat and a top coat are also required.
- Dilute the dry mixture until sour cream or mix the finished solution.
- Work in small areas, applying plaster and spreading it with a trowel.
- Give the necessary texture.

Tile
Ceramic tiles around the front door are used both independently and as a continuation of the wall decoration in the apartment.
Benefits tiles are obvious:
- Long service life.
- Resistance to any impact.
- Environmental friendliness.
- Large assortment of designs.
- Ease of maintenance.
TO disadvantages only the laborious cladding process is attributed, but if you already have the necessary skills, it will not be difficult to refine the front door. For work, they use porcelain stoneware, wall tiles or even mosaic.
Advice! If there is already a smooth coating on the slopes, but it does not fit into the design, it is not necessary to dismantle it. Get a glue-based mosaic - it sticks quickly and adheres perfectly to any surfaces.
Instructions:
- Prepare the surface: clean, level, prime.
- Knead the glue or open the finished one.
- Apply the adhesive to the tiles with a notched trowel, attach to the wall and press down. Start from the bottom corner.
- Repeat until you complete the entire opening.
Use a circular or a special knife to trim. Cover the corners with ceramic profiles.
Drywall
This decision rather refers not to the finishing, but to the preparatory stage: the walls are easily and quickly leveled with drywall, prepared for further painting, decorative plastering, wallpapering or tiles.
Everything you need: a GKL sheet, polyurethane foam (or a special reinforcing mixture), a construction gun, as well as a level, a ruler and a pencil.
- Preparation: clean the surface from dirt, dust.
- Layout: Measure each slope at three points so that it is an extension of the adjoining wall. Transfer the data to the GKL.
- Sawing: Cut the elements along the lines.
- Installation: Apply foam to the wall or reinforcing glue on a drywall sheet, apply to the desired place on the level.
When the sheets grab, all that remains is to plaster the joints and apply the thinnest layer of finishing putty: the slopes are ready for further decoration!
Additional elements
For those who do not want to invent something, there is a ready-made solution: extensions and platbands. Sold in the same place as themselves doors or in hardware stores. In fact, additional elements are MDF strips, so they are attached in the same way as panels: on foam, a frame, or both.
The main plus of addons is that they are selected clearly to the color of the door and platbands: the door structure will look solid, harmonious. Extensions look especially good in shallow openings, but even if the door is recessed by 20-50 cm, it will be possible to decorate the slopes with these ready-made strips.
Laminate
Laminate flooring has long been used not only on the floor: it is used for walls, ceilings, countertops and, of course, slopes! Due to the ease of fastening, the laminate is in one line with add-ons and MDF panels.
His pros:
- Decorativeness... The beautiful texture of wood or tiles looks much better than on plastic elements.
- Availability... The stores have for every taste and wallet.
- Practicality... It is permissible not just to wipe the slopes, but to wash with water!
Cons the solution has practically no, except that the need to level the wall before installation. In some cases, a crate may be needed.
We offer you to watch a video instruction on fastening laminate to slopes using liquid nails:
Paint
The easiest and cheapest way to just paint the slopes! In the future, they can be easily repainted, and if you choose a practical washable composition, then you will never have problems with caring for the entrance group.
The paint can be tinted in any color: make the frame a continuation of the wall or deliberately highlight it against the general background. Another advantage is saving on platbands.
Of the shortcomings only mandatory surface preparation: slopes should be perfectly smooth (it is better to use drywall), corners and joints - even, clear.
Let's start painting:
- Prepare a cuvette, roller, brush for working out hard-to-reach places.
- Use masking tape to protect any adjoining areas that do not need to be painted over.
- Stir the paint, pour a little into the cuvette, get to work.
- Apply 2-4 coats until desired result is achieved.
Beautiful examples for inspiration
The door at the entrance may not only be the same as we have listed above. One of the unusual options for its framing is soft panels. If space permits, why not make the entrance soft and cozy?
MDF and wood are also used in different ways: more often it is smooth, but for more expressiveness, choose the option with moldings.
And the last thing - so that the overall design of the room looks harmonious, make it so that Entrance door echoed with other elements in the hallway. In the photo, for example, a metal frame is visible: the same metal is used for the console legs and handles cabinet.
Finally, we will remind once again what material is suitable for slopes: practical, durable, easy to install. A suitable one is sure to be found among those listed above.
