Thoughtful headset
If the kitchen is cramped, but you want to use the area to the maximum, forget about modular headsets... Only custom-made furniture will save valuable centimeters.
To increase the storage area, we recommend ordering hanging cabinets to the ceilingand also do not neglect narrow drawers and plinths.
Above the refrigerator
A kitchen consisting of individual modules can also be improved. Unless a bulky refrigerator is built into a kitchen unit, there is likely to be a blank space above it.
This area can be used by constructing an open shelf or a mezzanine with a door.
Space above kitchen cabinets
Top of wall cabinets will serve as an additional storage place for the necessary little things that are not required every day. To keep things clean and dust-free, put them in boxes or baskets with lids.
Avoid transparent containers - they will not add order.
Roof rails
On comfortable roof rails you can hang potholders, the appliances you use most often, special spice racks, and cutting boards. The rails are fixed not only on the walls, but also on the doors and sides of the kitchen cabinets. With their help, it is easy to free up space in cabinets and drawers, and the necessary items will always be at hand.
Wall fixtures
Spatulas, knives and even a frying pan with a lid can easily find a new place if the walls are used wisely. Available solutions:
- magnetic knife holders;
- hooks;
- narrow shelves above the dining table;
- perforated board.
Shelves and hooks on the doors
Small items should be stored on the inside of the sash: this way, small jars will always be in sight and will no longer complicate access to food in the back of the cabinet. Metal or wooden file holders can be used instead of a shelf.
Without oven
How often do you bake pies and cookies? Does it take up a lot of space kitchen stove with a built-in oven? After answering these questions, you may be ditching the stove and buying a compact hob. This will free up storage space or a dishwasher, and the oven will replace a multicooker or microwave with baking functions.
Shelves under the ceiling
Leveraging headroom is the best way to expand storage. We are talking about a mezzanine above the doorway, as well as shelves above dining area.
If you want the structures to look less heavy, mount open shelves, and closed mezzanines with doors are more suitable for storing homework.
Organization under the sink
Take a look under the sink: if the main part of the cabinet is occupied by pipes, a trash can and a "bag with bags", it is worth organizing the space in a new way.Buy a rectangular waste container instead of a round bucket, hang a convenient bag on the side.
Add a couple of shelves or drawers with lids stacked on top of each other and you'll be amazed at how much floor space is wasted.
Table transformer
An excellent solution for organizing a dining area. For a large family will do a sliding structure that increases the tabletop if necessary, and for a couple of people - a folding table attached to the wall. Also on sale there are tables with small but handy pull-out drawers.
Folding chairs
They come to the rescue where there is no place for ordinary chairs. Compact, lightweight, made of wood or plastic and metal - when folded they take up a minimum of space and can even be hung on the wall.
A good alternative is stools that are stacked on top of each other.
Roomy seats
If you like functionality soft corners, but they are not satisfied with their appearance, there are several ways to acquire more comfortable and stylish furniture:
- DIY a bench with a lid.
- Purchase a box or chest with pillows.
- Buy the STUVA system at IKEA and make a soft seat for it.
In terms of capacity, such designs can compete with two wall cabinets.
Useful windowsill
A wide window sill will become an additional place for cooking or the main one for eating, if you convert it into a bar counter by extending the tabletop. The dream of many housewives is a window wash, but this option will require agreement and approval of the project.
Also, small household appliances or a fruit basket, which is usually located on the countertop, can be transferred to the windowsill.
Boxes instead of racks
Plastic and metal shelves on legs are no longer surprising: they are useful, since they increase the area inside the cabinets vertically, but are unattractive, therefore they are not suitable for open spaces.
For storage on countertops, it is more appropriate to use a wooden box, which can turn into a highlight of the interior.
"Decluttering"
The most effective way to save space in the kitchen is to get rid of unnecessary appliances, dishes, and even furniture. Let the things that are lying dead load please new owners: look for them among friends or at online flea markets.
Throw away old-fashioned items and try to be mindful of new purchases.
If your kitchen has a lot of things and little free space, then cooking and family dinners are not fun. Apply a few of these ideas and the space in your small kitchen will start to work more efficiently.
