Choosing the right place
It is important that the lounge area is located in the right place: it depends on whether nothing will interfere with your rest and whether it itself will become a thorn in landscape design.
There are certain requirements that will make it easier for you to choose a place to stay at your summer cottage:
- Aesthetics... It is important to arrange the zone in a beautiful place and take care in advance that a beautiful view opens up to those in it. There may be a lawn, an artificial pond nearby, multi-tiered flower bed... But no saraev, dung heaps and other household items should not be visible.
- Sun protection... Few people like to constantly be in the recreation area under the scorching sun. In summer, on the contrary, you want to hide from the heat in the shade - for this you either choose a shaded corner of the garden with fruit trees, or put up a canopy.
Advice! If the place for recreation is planned to be used, including for sunbathing, leave part of the territory in the sun - do not cover it with a canopy.
- Rain protection... This is not true for every recreation area in the country, but if your climate involves frequent precipitation, think about a closed gazebo instead of a patio or pergola without a roof.
- Sheltering... From nosy neighbors, street noise and dust. This rule naturally assumes distance from the main entrance, road and fence... You can also protect yourself artificially - for example, with the help hedge or a decorative screen entwined with vines.
- Closeness to home... The further the recreation area at the dacha is located from the main building, the more time and effort will have to be spent on hiking back and forth. Please note that you will need to take out snacks and drinks, bring in dirty dishes, etc.
Designers identify 3 suitable places in the summer cottage for relaxing in the garden:
- From the back of the house. It is especially convenient if there is a kitchen in this part and there is a separate entrance to it. The place to relax can be in the form of a veranda, terrace, patio or a slightly remote gazebo, open or closed.
- Under the trees, away from home. You will have to go far to the kitchen or the toilet, but you will get a cozy resting corner in the country.
- Under a canopy in the opposite corner of the courtyard. Often, the recreation area is adjacent not to the house, but, for example, to the bathhouse. Usually the site next to it is larger and freer, there is no road and parking.
Determining the type
The placement of a place for rest is also influenced by its type: for an open recreation area in the country, one conditions are required, for a closed one - completely different.
Terrace
It is often confused with a veranda, but both designs are suitable for relaxing in the garden. The main difference between a terrace and a veranda is that the first is located separately, and the second is an extension to the house.
The undeniable convenience of a veranda in close proximity to the living space - to take out a blanket or food, you do not have to ply throughout the site.On the other hand, the guests sitting on the terrace will not disturb those who are sleeping in the house, due to the distance from the sleeping windows.
The terrace usually consists of a wooden base, support pillars and a roof. Sometimes decorative railings or lattice walls are erected. If desired, the building can be left completely open so that nothing will interfere with your sunbathing.
Pergola
It is somewhat reminiscent of a terrace - a platform remote from the house with supports and a roof. The main difference lies precisely in the structure of the roof - in the pergola, its role is played by a lattice, which can be left as it is or run over it climbing plants.
In the first case, a slight shading effect will be obtained, but there will be no complete protection from rain and sun. In the second, the plants will eventually create a natural roof and will almost not allow rays and precipitation to pass through.
Pergolas are usually made of wood, and their stylish and modern appearance will be a great accent in landscape design.
Alcove
The classic design of the recreation area at the summer cottage assumes the presence of a gazebo. They are of two types:
- Open... It has practically no walls (maximum, low railings), but it is equipped with a roof. It is used only in the warm season, it is equipped with a table with benches, as well as barbecue and barbecue nearby.
- Closed... It looks like a full-fledged small house with walls, window and doorways. A gazebo of a closed type is summer - not insulated, glass; and winter - for example, a grill house with a fireplace or a stove for heating.
Gazebos are made from various materials, they come in all sizes and shapes. The economy class includes simple wood, brick - more expensive, forged - decorative.
Patio
It is possible to equip a recreation area of this type exclusively from the back of the house. It usually looks like an open recreation area in the country, paved with stone or paving slabs.
On the territory, they equip a small dining area with a table and chairs (it is appropriate to add an umbrella), as well as a place for complete relaxation in the open air with sun loungers and a bar. You can decorate with flowerpots with flowers, illumination, water sources.
Green room
A design innovation involving one or more open areas with living walls. Rooms in the recreation area should be separated from each other and from the environment with fences. These can be shrubs, trees, tall plants, or trellises entwined with loaches.
The "floor" is a lawn, tiles or paving stones, the ceiling is a blue sky. There are no awnings in the recreation area, the maximum is separate umbrellas above the sun loungers or a table. therefore garden furniture should be as practical as possible - not be afraid of moisture, temperature fluctuations, scorching sun, insects.
Advice! Are you planning to equip a recreation area for different purposes? Divide the rooms and equip each one differently: dining room, playroom, lounge. It can be a whole apartment in the open air.
Active recreation area
If you prefer sports to kebabs and gatherings, adjust the place to rest according to your habits. An active recreation area in the garden presupposes the presence of a sports ground: it can be separate (football field, tennis court, volleyball or basketball platform), or universal - an area with gates, rings, nets.
Important! So that the area can be used as an ice rink or hockey court in winter, make a low fence and place the area near the water supply.
Younger family members need a special playground with swings, climbing frames, slides, sandpits and other entertainments.
We equip the recreation area
The layout and furnishing of an outdoor recreation area depends primarily on its purpose.
If a the main objective creating such a place to relax - lunches and dinners, you will need a large table, chairs, armchairs or sofas.
A place for rest, suggesting relaxation, is equipped with comfortable sofas, sun loungers. For a recreation area in the form of a living room, low wicker furniture with pillows and a coffee table with a hearth in the middle is suitable.
An ordinary hammock will add coziness - it is inexpensive, but for some reason it is not used in every area. However, you can be sure that it will become a place of attraction for family members and guests and you will want to accommodate at least one more.
Important! Please note that for a hammock in the absence of trees, two strong pillars are required, which are recommended to be concreted into the ground even before the construction of the site.
The swing as an additional element of the recreation area will appeal not only to children, but also to adults: all the more wide, they can be used as a bench or a lounger.
Advice! In a green room, where instead of grass flooring, you can put frameless furniture in a special outdoor fabric: an upholstered beanbag chair looks great in the courtyard and can become a favorite place for the whole family to relax.
We decorate beautifully
The design of the recreation area in the country and its decoration is an important stage that will help you make the space original and unique. They use as decor:
- Plants... A budget and beautiful option to add a festive mood. You can place it both inside in a flowerpot and plant it outside along tracks.
- Lighting... Lanterns, garlands, candles will set a romantic tone for any gatherings.
- Textile... Pillows of different shapes, blankets, curtains will bring the recreation area to a new level.
- Water bodies... The contemplation of waterfalls and ornamental ponds is soothing and relaxing.
- Bonfires... To organize a source of open fire in the recreation area means to add at least 40% to the comfort.
A selection of budget options
The simplest seating area that does not require investments is outdoor furniture. It is installed directly on top of the soil, without making a flooring and a canopy.
An inexpensive covered terrace or gazebo is equipped with polycarbonate - this budget material is easy to process, protects from rain and sun, and is suitable for an interesting design in a modern style.
If protection from rain is not so important, place a table under the vines - the plant creates a pleasant shade.
Advice! In order not to buy special furniture, make it yourself from pallets. Pallets can be found for free or bought inexpensively, and they are an excellent building material. Sofas, armchairs, tables, bar counters, chaise lounges and much more are created from pallets.
